New Camera By Canon EOS-M. Perfect For AP?
Hey Guys,

What do you think of this new offering by Canon:

http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/consu...#Specifications

A few things I liked:

1. 10.5 oz
2. Video out as well as HDMI out. (No HDMI converter for downlink)
3. Standard with 22mm f2.0 lens
4. Digic 5 processor (same as used on the 5D Mk III and T4i)
5. Apparently same sensor used on 7D and T4i
6. There are many other features that they seemed to ramp up over the Sony Nex5.

The one thing I dislike:

1. No 1080 60P

That is a promising camera for AP. I like the lightweight, fast processor and live video out.

It is a bummer no 1080 60p. Once you are used to 60p it is hard to take a step back

Thanks for posting. I wonder what the price will be? I like cannons, especially the Magic Lantern add-ons.

Several companies are taking preorders at $799. Once they become readily available and the ebay discounters get them I can see them getting a bit less expensive.

I am debating preordering one. I am currently using a Canon T3i and cutting my camera load in half with no sacrifice in quality (actually improving quality) could give me close to another minute of flight time.

By purchasing the EOS-M I would actually pick up a better processor and get the perfect 22mm pancake lens that Canon does not currently offer for their DSLR's. Also gaining a F stop and a half is going to be huge for shot flexibility.

I have been debating going with the Sony Nex5, but prefer .mov of Canon when I am doing video. Also gaining .8 F stop with the Canon over the Sony Nex5n is a big factor. Most of my work is aerial surveying and commercial real estate. I do some video work, but it is not the focus of my business so not having 1080 60p is not a deal killer for me. I also don't really care for having to use an HDMI converter on the Sony.

By the way, I also found out that the case is not going to be plastic, but is going to be made out of the same metal used in the 5D Mark III case.

The next thing I need to determine are the options in shutter triggering. I don't mind IR, but prefer hard wire with gentwire.

I appreciate having others reflect on this decision, so thanks.

It blows my mind that they build a high quality camera like this and leave off the remote jack...
