Sport static issues
Im having static hits on my 450 Sport. Its happened 3 times, after the second time I bought a so called anti static belt AND sprayed it with Silicone and it happened again!

2 questions:

1. Will running a small thin wire from the boom to the motor mount solve the problem? Ive been told it will and this what the Logo guys are doing right?

2. Will static build up increase with higher head speeds? I am running quite a high head speed!

Im also going to try a different RX and mount it in the middle of the frames on the bottom plate. At the moment its mounted at the rear on the side of the frame where the boom block is.
60% of the time, it works every time!

On the Logo the static wire on the tail is attached to a screw that is connected to a bearing that touches the belt, then connects to the boom and from the boom to the motor mount or negative side of ESC.Bill Whittaker

I see. The 450 Sport has a metal tail box and pully on the tail output shaft so would the other wire be necessary on the Sport?60% of the time, it works every time!

I would run from the metal tailbox to the boom, then from the boom to the motor or negative side of the ESC, see if it makes a difference.Bill Whittaker

Well I have just tried it with no blades on with a different RX in a different location with a wire going from the boom to the motor mount and its still doing it! The cyclic servos go to failsafe position and the motor shuts off for about 2 seconds then its all ok again except RX lights flashing!

Just sprayed the main gears with silicone and it still does it!

This is on 2.4GHz? I never had a problem with my Spektrum radios and belt drive tails. Waco

Check your power source. The 450 heli has been around a LONG time and generally isn't known to have problems with static discharge.

If you go the grounding route, you need to get a wire from the tail case to bare metal of the boom (if it's painted or anodized aluminum). You then need to run a wire from the front of the boom (bare metal again) to the chassis (carbon fiber, or bare metal if aluminum). That wire also gets tied to the negative battery terminal.

Yes it's spektrum gear. I've had dozens of flights on this heli then all of a sudden I get brown outs! The only thing I changed was I put the helical main gear and pinion on! It can't have been that because I have put the straight gears back on it. I'll try a wire from the tail case to the boom and scrape the anodising off. If that doesn't work it must be a dodgy bec in the esc (stock align).60% of the time, it works every time!

If you've got dozens of flights on this gear and airframe combo, I'd start inspecting the wires closely looking for any chafing or rubbing on the frame....R.I.P. Roman

Found the cause! Was a dodgy 410M servo! It started behaving weirdly on the bench then stopped working completely shortly after.

I guess this was overloading the BEC and causing the brown outs?

Ordered some trusty old 65MG's!

Thanks Richard for reporting back. Sometimes others start a thread but never follow up with the solution. This is what a forum shoud be about; working the problem and reporting the fix. Cheers! Waco
