GT5 Working Perfectly
Thanks to everyone who helped me and shared his toughts and opinions about the gt5,It workd the way Toto mentioned on a mechanical mixing machine, you have to connect the pitch servo directly to the reciever, special thanks goes to santiago for sharing his gt5 settings on his x50,My raptor is rock solid thank you guys !

MoneyPitVictim also has some great advice in this thread. Would be great if he was maybe a team pilot as well, to help with the setup of this unit.

Santiago,

Your settings are being used on an older Trex 600e. Absolutely perfect. I still say Thunder Tiger would be wise to pick you up as a rep.

How do I go about making the right roll more axial? Left roll is on a string, right roll looks like crap. It wants to raise the nose. Using an 8fg if it matters.

Rolling better one side than the other might be the swash timming is slightly delay bias, or your blades are lagging a bit.

This is a mechanical and inertia issue.
and not a whole to do with the FBL unit. Yes, it is tweak-able.

The heavier the blades, the stronger the pitch-up moment when initiating right roll, or pitch down when going left.

Maybe turing up the the swash I-Limit may help but I am not 100% certain.

What blades and what RPM are you using?

Time to get out the fbl blades then. Rotortech's might be causing a problem. 1800 - 2000. Will give it a try tomorrow.

the 5.1 simply adds DSMX support

As for the rolls, if it's a titan X50, I found something that helped mine immensely. I don't have the instructions, and it was a prototype machine, so I'm not sure if it was simply built opposite the instructions or not. The anti-rotation arms for the swash actually put the phasing not quite at 90 degrees. Mine was a few degrees retarded and I wanted to advance it to see if there was any difference. I flipped those arms over to the other side of the head (at the field, took only a couple minutes to unscrew, locktite and re-screw). This took the head from a few degrees retarded to a few degrees advanced. Made a pretty big difference in rolls, both ways on a string. Also vastly improved pirouette compensation behaviour in the GT5.

So they did not make the setup any easier.

by far, that is the biggest handicap/issue of the unit

It wasn't the setup that was difficult. It was the poorly written, confusing and misleading manual that made setup a challenge. The unit itself works great with little tweaking needed.

Violent tail wag
hi guys ,yesterday i did 2 flights with my raptor 50 se fbl ,and i left the gt5 settings as it was before like i mentioned, the first flight was ok ,than i changed the canopy for a second flight and as soon as the heli lifts of the ground the tail wags alot,i put the heli down and switched it off ,turned it back on and the same results and i had to land,i didn't try to fly it because i was afraid of the tail wag maybe causing a crash ,could any one tell what happened i didnt change any settings at all ,running futaba 9254 servo for tail

Thanks to this thread and Gary's notes Im in the air flying around enjoying the Gt5.1 in my new raptor90 g4n I just have a couple little thing happening. When doing fast circuits the tail wags a little as I turn. I've been dropping the P and I I'm at 85 and 75 now. Also when flying strait the heli bobs up and down a little, what setting would I adjust for this.
Cheers

There is a tail deadband adjustment. Default is VERY VERY low. Max is 125 and that is where you want it. Should reduce or eliminate the tail wag in high speed flight. For the porpoising in fast flight, increase the I limit. I think default is 18 and max is like 50 or 75, I forget. If you have the I gain high enough you usually have to increase the I limit. I'm maxed out on I limit on all mine but I run drastically high I gains. Higher I gain helps piro's a lot. I has to do with the way the PID loop works, maintaining consistency over time.

Brief digression here:
I set cyclic ranges differently now compared to my original notes, and the machines have a much better feel and allow much higher P gains. Instead of using transmitter ATV's for cyclic range as TT stated, and I repeated in instructions, use the servo travel for the three cyclic servos to achieve 8 degrees cyclic on the bench. May have to then increase collective value in unit and/or in transmitter to recoup the pitch range. My P gains are close to maxed on everything now, the P and I are both maxed on the X50. Additionally, I've found the tail is opposite what the futaba gyros liked. Played with different length arms again and it seems the GT5 wants at least 80 on P gain on tail. If it's lower than that the servo arm is too long, go in a hole and raise the P gain. I know this contradicts what I originally wrote but we all learn things over time and I'm always experimenting to try to make things better.

Just saw the previous post. If you changed canopies then got the tail way, and it is a different canopy, then remove canopy and hover. If tail shake is still there you can call me an idiot <G>, but if it dissappears then you don't have secure mounting on the different canopy and it's shaking, which is affecting the tail gyro.Gary Wright

tail wag on idle 1 and violent tail wag on idle 2
in normal flight mode the heli is perfect, tail holds and everything, when i put it on idle 1 the tail starts to wag a bit and on idle 2 it wags violently ,i have the gt5 is set to 100% total gain ,can i set the total gain like for example less on idle 1 and 2 from the gyro gain on the tx ????? i have the futaba 7c ,or is this totally another problem not related to gain, everything is working ok balanced tail blades, good bearings everything
