You just got to love ballistic recovery chutes.

Ballistic parachutes are the best thing since sliced bread for aviation IMO. They should have already been figured out for commercial aircraft by now in my opinion.

At one time I wanted to be a commercial pilot, but after flying for a while and learning in depth about aircraft it just started to get to me that there was simply no escape plan in general aviation/commercial aircraft. If one of the many complex systems or any other numerous dangers happened beyond maintenance control and its just simply over, emergency checklist simply didn't cut it for me.

I still love to fly, but you won't see me flying anything that is not equipped with a ballistic parachute, my personal favorite is the Cirrus.

A ballistic chute will work if you make the decision to deploy it high enough. If you screw up low like that baseball pitcher on the East River a few years ago, the chute is no good at all.

What flight are you talking about??

Which is worse, ignorance or apathy? I don't know and I don't care!

Oh, I remember. He crashed into a building. And correct me if I'm wrong, didn't he have a flight instructor in the seat beside him?

They were in the fog and never deployed the 'chute.
Not sure that's the best example.
