I recently had my DX 8 radio system go to fail safe while flying my Align 600. I ended up getting struck by the main blade in the forarm and feel very lucky that was all that got hit. I was researching this since and there are a lot of similar reports. I have talked to horizon and all they told me was they have not heard of this. And I have not heard back from them since.

It's a big reminder that these are not toys.

fail safe
Man--that sucks; glad you didn't get hurt--I just bought one of those radio's; so I don't know too much about it but I guess you have to get firmware updates when they fix glitches in their programming--was yours up to date?

First of all
How do you know if it went info fail safe? Are you flying flybar or flybarless? Did the engine stay at the same head speed, increase or decrease at the time you thought is was going into fail safe?

Thanks for posting that notice Newguy! I just got my DX8 on thurs. and registered and downloaded a firmware update off their site yesterday--seems like they would have showed me that page when I registered the thing! I better check the batt compartment!

Can you describe what exactly happened, what gear you have, what power system you are running in the helicopter? I only ask because it is pretty popular to blame the radio or a "failsafe" incident when in fact it is something different. Sometimes it can be as simple as the antennas being masked by the carbon fiber frame (poor placement). This isn't about you having done something wrong, it's about making sure we don't have another "get a Futaba 8FGH and never look back" thread when it could have been something simple and preventable. It's about educating everyone so this can be a more enjoyable hobby. Hope it works out either way.

How long in to the flight did this happen?
If it went in to FS and the FS was set up the throttle should have cut down to the off position. If it did go in to FS the heli had to be fairly close when the event started.
A few more details may help others to understand a little better what happened.
