How do you do that fancy qoute box thing? Anyway - PropWash3D "i want to light the heli so you can see it form outer space....i need all the advise i can get from people that have done this...brightest leds."
Here's a pic of my night rig. It's pretty bright, maybe too bright too see the DIY night blades I'm working on. They are just led strips from Hobbypartz.com and they are pretty cheap. You can stick on as many as you want and wire them all together with the wire leads that come on them. Also the more power you put into them the brighter they are, but of course they will burn out at some point. I don't know what that point is and don't use any resistors but it;s been all good for about 30 flights. I power them all with one 2 cell 300mAh battery. I tried those cold string light tubes once but didn't think they were bright enough.

The pink led strips on the skid pipes are the only ones that are not bright. I am going to change them to green and put green on the horizontal stabilizer also.

Hey thanks Propwash, yeah that is a designated night rig. It looks like crap with all the led strips all over it in the daytime but it's pretty cool at night. I'm going give a go at soldering these microscopic leds for the diy night blades today. I guess I should lay off the coffee today for steady hands.

Flying is of course the same but to be honest the lights can be distracting/disorienting. I found the more different colors placed on different parts of the heli helps a little bit with orientation but fast flight can turn into kind of a blur (could just be my eyesight). I'm hoping with the night blades it will be a little better because the whole disk will be very visible. I'm also going to use different colors for the top and bottom of the blades and white on the tips so this should help too. I am by no means a great flyer but it's not that bad. I see video of 3D night pilots and am amazed at how they can keep orientation.
