I'm wondering if OS had to stick with a smaller displacement engine for cooling reasons. Maybe its the biggest displacement engine that can be cooled with the stock fans?

I wrote this 2 weeks ago...

price without taxes

GT33 with muffler = marketing 40.000 Yen = street 33.600 Yen = USA 420 U$
GT22 with muffler = marketing 36.000 Yen = street 30.240 Yen = USA 410 U$
GT15 w/o muffler = marketing 38.000 Yen = street ????????? = USA 399 ??

as you can see the GT33 is 1:1 but the GT22 is $30 overpriced in the USA this is why I do not expect a reasonable price from Tower

its going to be sold for quite a bit less than that in the US. Tower will be posting pricing fairly soon.

no

it should bolt into MOST helicopters that an OS91HZ will bolt into (with at least cooling shroud mods). You will need a 90 class cooling system, clutch and gear ratios

that appears to be mounted in a caliber 90, and because of the separate, belt driven cooling fan it appears to fit quite well

other models like the G4 which have a large crank mounted cooling fan will require a little more effort to get it installed.

no offense to the F3C guys, but if you were trying to highlight engine performance with that vid, it was...well...about as exciting as a cup of warm water.showing a preference will only get you into trouble, 90% of everything is crap...

the key here is what is it you're looking for

an awful lot of helicopter pilots are just sport flyers. They never really use all the power that something like a 17hp electric will produce. They just fly around, do some light aerobatics and have fun.

This motor will do those things and with a typical 700 nitro sized fuel tank full of gasoline, do it for over 30 minutes. No messy cleanup and it will more or less go into an existing 700 nitro model without massive modifications or the requirement to have a gas designed model.

is it for everybody? probably not. But given the history of converted glow motors, its quite an accomplishment. I know others have flown in F3C events with gasoline helicopters but I'm not aware that anyone has ever successfully flown one using a converted motor.

Let me quote the comment from Mr. Sugaki of K&S.

Mr. Dobashi enjoyed the contest with 90-size helicopter powered by O.S. newly released petroleum engine.
The silence of the sound looks like a little bit noisy electric powered helicopter. My expression might be exaggerated but there's almost no exhaust smoke, therefore I felt so.
The power of the engine may be previous 60-size nitro but it is enough for F3C pattern. When we take running cost into account, I believe that the petroleum engine will be great choice.

That is a cracking f3c flight.
One of the reasons nitro became unpopular was the judges didn't like the smoke.
A few years ago they were all going to low smoke fuel to keep them happy.
Demonstrates how smooth the motor is as well.

Rob.
