Over the last few months I have become more and more comfortable with my Avant e-Aurora and I'm now looking for more power. Currently I'm running a CC Phoenix Ice2 120 HV with a Hyperion 4035-500 on the stock 10 tooth pinion (9.9 Gear Ratio). My head speed was set to 2050 rpm which gives very little head room for the governor. I would like to upgrade the motor and have been considering the following options:
Scorpion HKIII 4035-530
Scorpion HKIII 4035-560
Scorpion 4525-520 Ultimate

While the 4525 will undoubtedly deliver the most power, I'm concerned that I may have to change the ESC, which is something I don't want to do. The 4035-560 seems like the most practical choice but would like some advice before I go ahead and make any changes.

From crunching some numbers on both Mr Mel's head speed calculator and on the Castle Link software, the Scorpion HKIII 4035-560 would seem like the best choice.

I think 500, 530 and 560 will meet what you need. 2150 head speed really make this heli alive. I will aim at this range when selecting a motor.

Hi grazer,

I put a fair bit of time on the 500, 530 and 560 and found the 530 to be the best choice if using an external GOV (Vbar) at 2050 with the stock pinion.

The 560 made great power and works ok of you can keep it loaded for most of the flight - it is harder on the ESC and you will see higher peak currents (190 - 200A+). You are also more likely to induce oscillations in the airframe as the power delivery with this combo (560 + CC 120) can be peaky.

Found the 530 to be just right for average to hard flying. You may want to try it before the 4525-520.

Best,

- Rob

Thanks for the info bob00, that is the kind of information I'm looking for. Considering that I'm wanting to move the head speed up to 2100 would the 530 not a bit borderline in the headroom department when used with the CC governor (4.01)? I must admit that I had been leaning towards the 530 to start with but now believe that the 560 would be the better choice.

internal GOV... Yes, may have to over gear for a bit more headroom ie 560 may be the better choice - haven't tried this, please let me know how it works.

You may also want to consider a larger pinion and the 500kv or 530kv before going to the 560kv motor.
