Florida Tells Holder To Blow It Out His A##

(International Business Times) — Florida state officials will continue their quest to purge purportedly ineligible people from voter-registration rolls, a representative of Secretary of State Ken Detzner said Saturday, in defiance of objections from the U.S. Justice Department and county officials who say the policy violates two federal voting laws.

On Thursday, T. Christian Herren Jr., the head of the Justice Department’s voting section, said the effort to remove voters appears to violate the 1965 Voting Rights Act, which outlaws discriminatory voting practices that disenfranchise minorities. On a list of almost 2,700 voters the state suspects are noncitizens, blacks and Latinos were disproportionately represented, according to an analysis by the Miami Herald, which concluded Democratic and independent voters are the most likely to be targeted.

Despite the warning, Detzner’s representative said on Saturday the state intends to go forward with its campaign. “We have a year-round obligation to ensure the integrity of Florida’s elections. We will be responding to (the Justice Department’s) concerns next week,” Chris Cate wrote in an email to Reuters.

Detzner has previously said his agency has identified 182,000 registered voters who are not citizens by comparing driver’s-license and voter-registration databases. Beginning in April, the state requested that county election officials contact almost 2,700 suspected noncitizens by mail. The letters said that those who failed to provide proof of citizenship within 30 days would be removed from the voter rolls.

Florida is among a handful of states covered by the Voters Rights Act Section V, which requires areas with a deep history of racial discrimination — mostly Southern states — to seek approval from the Justice Department or a panel of federal judges before attempting to change any voting-related policy. Five Florida counties are required to abide by that law.

Florida failed to get clearance for its purge or its methods to identify people the state suspects are not U.S. citizens.

Wish Texas, and for that matter, every other state would do this.

Pretty sure FL is not attempting to change any policy. They are simply making sure those that legally can vote, are the ONLY ones that can vote on election day. Why does the Justice Dept always (and apparently ONLY) go after those that try to enforce the law and not go after those that break the law?

Oh wait, they are part of the anti-constitution Obama administration.

Good for you!

I'm saddened I can't make that claim.

Both Florida and Arizona are finding different ways to fight the feds.

But Texas has a good excuse for not bucking the feds...yeah they still have a lot of pandering to do with the illegals.

I was just chatting with a Liberal friend of mine on Facebook who has become WAAAAYYY more liberal since moving to Austin TX. He had a job that he held onto for a few months making furniture and he said out of 8 workers, 4 of them qualified for food stamps.
I told him "well maybe if your competition for jobs wasn't walking over the border by the hundreds, you could make a decent wage".
Yeah, that didn't sit too well.

And yet the Republicans are so good that they can't even get a competent republican to run for president, they have to get a rino. 2 elections in a row that the GOP has brought great people to run against the democrats. At times it makes me wonder of the GOP really loves the democrats because of the high caliber candidates they bring to the table. When was the last time the GOP brought anyone of caliber to run for governor of California? Is the GOP falling apart or what? Seriously.
