Well so far our weekly updates has not gone so well. Ben had a rear bearing failure on the os55. We are waiting on parts to arrive so we can complete the rebuild. School finals last week did not help him either.

My electric sdx has been running well, but I have been having a few issues with the gear mesh. With the help of Dr.Ben yesterday at Maryland I think we have found the issue. I got one test flight in late this afternoon between the rain showers and the results look promising.

We have taken pictures of our FBL rotor head setup and will post them later this week along with the details about our setups. More flight video will be coming soon.

We would also like to thank the Maryland Helicopter Association for inviting us down to fly yesterday. We hope they can find a new field soon so they can get back to business as usual.

Thanks

Nice update Tim, hopefully the os55 is back in action soon. I'm in the process of ys120ing and FBL'ing my D3(ssl90 head). Trying the vbar silver line up first so will post some pics and a status update when I've done the conversion. Hopefully finished in the next week or two, steep learning curve as it's my first FBL.

Brendan,

I hear ya, I switch to fbl mid season 2011. I went with cgy750, and I am glad dr.Ben posted the v1.2 tips thread. The information exchanged and updated in that thread makes the difference between a good or a great flying model.

I have also watched all the video's and tips posted by MrMel for the vbar. There is so much information in his video's that applies to all systems. Understanding I & D gain is very important. If you have not yet, I suggested you check out his video's.

Looking forward to hearing your report on the vbar/D3 comb0. There are some neat features in the vbar, someday I will give one a try.

Thanks

Thanks Tim, have been checking out Mr Mel's vids and Dr Ben's tips and it all helps. There are a lot of vbar users at my flying field so I thought it would help to go with that one first up, am open to trying a different one on D3 number 2 though. Will get some build pics soon of the conversion across when the bits start to arrive (should be tomorrow).

So your enjoying FBL Tim? The work you and Ben do is awesome keep up the good work

Brendan,

The reason why I went with the CGY750 is I have been disappointed in the past going off brand (not vbar). Plus there was no local vbar support where I live. As I said yesterday I will get a vbar when finance allow. All the reading I have done since starting fbl makes me want one.

I don't regret going fbl, the extra performance you gain is .... It is not that the models would not do things before, it just easier with more room for error because of the power increase. The models track in all weather conditions more consistently. The extra system control makes some tricks just easier. Truth fbl just helps my old reflexes.

My d3 became a completely different model when I switched it to fbl. I will be interested to compare notes when you are done. Looking forward to the conversation.
