I live in Iowa and have been hearing a local radio station talking about raising money to get the ship relocated and ready for people to take tours of the ship. They were saying that people from Iowa would be able to have tours for free. I would like to take a tour of it when it's ready.

Yeah, I would like to tour one also. The 2 on the east coast are the USS New Jersey (in Camden) and The USS Wisconsin is in Norfolk. Both are open for tours. The USS Missouri is in Pearl Harbor. I believe that is open for tours as well. - Kris

You forget the USS Massachusetts, berthed in Fall River MA and open for tours. They also have a destroyer, deisel sub, and PT boat on display.

From the official website:
The State of Iowa has been involved in USS IOWA’s life from the beginning at New York Naval Shipyard. Pacific Battleship Center is grateful for the tireless effort and financial support the state as a whole has provided in keeping the legacy of the battleship alive. As our thank you to the State of Iowa and its citizens, Pacific Battleship Center provides a no-cost general tour to visitors that show a valid State of Iowa drivers license at the ticket booth. We look forward to a long continued relationship with the namesake of the greatest battleship in the world!

I don't know where the final resting place is. The cops are keeping everyone away so you can't get close to take pictures. The stern pic is a zoom shot from far away. The side view is zoomed in from the hills of San Pedro. I can't Wait to tour it. I always enjoyed touring the queen Mary scenes I was a kid.

I did the battleship and sub tour in Mobile when I was a kid in the 70's. Impressive to say the least.

The Massachusetts isn't the same class as the Iowa, Missouri, etc but has the same guns with a shorter barrel and same exact turret. I've been on the Massachusetts and the Missouri and they are AWESOME! If you get on it, get into the turrets (I had to grease some skids to get in one on the Missouri but not the Mass.). It was the coolest part of the entire ship!

Stupidity can be cured. Ignorance is for life!

The USS Missouri is in Pearl Harbor
Been there and seen the ole girl! What a beauty sitting just in front of the Arizona. This is a pic I took at the memorial.

What a heart wrenching feeling looking over the bow of the Arizona.

I've been in one of the turrets on the Massachusetts and the one thing that really hit me was that men worked and fought in that space. You don't realise how tight it is in there until you are actually in there.

The other amazing thing was looking out the little slit on the combat bridge with something like 18" of armor. It was a tough breed of men that took ships like that into battle.

The projectiles coming out of the big guns are like shooting a Volkswagen beetle 23 miles.

Love the big battleships! There's simply nothing like them out there anymore. I was fortunate enough to spend a week on the Missouri during gunnery quals in 1986 when she was recommissioned. There is absolutely NOTHING like the big guns on these ships. I got to watch a 15 gun (all 9 16" guns + 6 5" guns) broadside from the O-10 level observation post. Incredible! Just wish I had been able to take pics...

I did take a few when we went aboard in Pearl in '07:
