And your engine is running way faster than mine when the gov reads 1800.

I think your head speed there is closer to 1850 or so...Can't be sure in a YT video though.

Mine sounded like about half the speed of that.

I literally never use the word literally right.

It was checked by Tim Jones yesterday so its the right headspeed.He had to turn it up when he flew it..

K, flew the setup with only one batt in the machine. Took out the rear one and made up some extensions to reach the front batt. Here's my log from my 120HV that shows the goings on.

My headspeed is about 1100 at the start of the pack, goes down to about 1000 by the end. Also the ripple is virtually non-existent, probably because the ESC is mostly wide open all the time lol.
Flight times are still about 10 minutes, same as it was with 12S.

Losing the weight of the additional batt did help quite a bit. I am able to do loops just fine as long as I do a good dive before pulling up. Rolls are really slow.

It's so much less stuff I have to lug to the field just to charge one batt instead of two I think I'll just keep flying it this way lol. Nothing gets hot, it's nice and calm and relaxed, and really super stable.

I do have the microbeast on the machine, so haven't tried this NOBAR yet. It's so stable and perfect, tho, I think I'm just going to leave it as-is...

You are getting 10 mins on 12s? Did you change the gearing or governor speed?

No, I made no changes, just took one of the batts out and that was it. I run a fairly low HS on 12s also, about 1600rpm, so that's what extends the flight time....

Danny Melnick has been doing this for a while now (6S/1000rpm). I tried it, but my setups, which are pretty low rpm to begin with just aren't appropriate for a 6S "half pack" (I like things in the 1550 to 1800 range, so use 400KV motors geared deeply). Danny has found you actually need a quite aggressive 12S setup like something in the 2200 range in order to do 6S and have enough headroom. I watched him fly a few 14 minute flights yesterday on 6S/1000, and I've flown that machine also. Collective management is key to say the least. Since I couldn't really do it with my 400KV 12S setup (tried, just won't work well) I played with some 10S small packs out of my 600 machine, and resetting some ESC settings. This works really well and uses less than 3000mah at 10 minutes, however it's still a bit heavier than 6S so needs a couple hundred more rpms. Not wanting to have to change ESC programming to go back and forth, I decided to try to get a very large differential two speed setup with 12S/5000's and currently have arrived at 1250/1800. Not quite the 1000 smooth-factor but close and it's just flipping a switch during flight. 10 minutes in the 1250 mode doesn't even use 3000 out of the packs. Below is a short example. Flight starts in the 1800 mode.

My setup is the 700MX 470KV, so I was surprised it spun up fast enough to get off the ground at all on 6s lol... But it turns out to be very high fun-factor as-is.

I didn't want to change anything, so if I wanted to I could just strap the 2nd batt in, hook it up in series in the usual way and go fly 12s. So I just left everything as-is.

Scorpion has a 330KV motor out now that I would imagine could get you in the ballpark of 1000rpm headspeeds on 12s if you run your throttle curve low enough. And it'd probably put out a fair bit more power at those speeds than our higher KV motors running on only a 6S batt.

I can do 1050 (the lowest the spin ESC governer will allow), but with 12S/5000 it's just too heavy so I can't actually "fly" it, just hover and putt around. I don't have any lighter/smaller 6S packs so 1250ish is where I ended up. With 6S it doesn't have enough margin for the governer as it's maxed out. The match actually shows 960 as the max possible, but with timing advance like I run it's actually around a 440KV system. If I increased pinion size like Danny (he went up two teeth ) it would probably be good at 1050 but then I'd be locked in to 6S and low rpm, and couldn't easily do both.
