Just thought I'd pass along a way to have another barrel of fun with your 700 electric - try flying it on 6S.
Here's a pic of a quick pair of harnesses I soldered up today to allow hooking the batts up in parallel instead of series (yes I see the bare spot in the wire, I'm still covering up that up when I took the pic).

On my setup I didn't have to change anything at all setup-wise or in the radio. I just use these harnesses when I want to fly loooooow rotor speed and my other ones when I want to fly fast (12s).

I elected to keep both batts in the machine because I wanted the extra weight - the wind was gusting to about 25mph and I needed the stability.

Plus, with both batts in parallel, I can fly 13 minutes and still don't hit 50% depleted. I predict approx. 15 minute flight times to hit 50% depleted.

I'm not sure what my headspeed is. It's below 1000rpm I'm pretty sure. I was able to complete a loop and it flew pretty well. I did have to turn the gain down on the microbeast a little bit to get rid of a slight wobble. Otherwise it's really stable.

collective is definitely a precious commodity at headspeeds this low, but you can fly foreeever.... Hover is at about 85% stick, probably because of the weight....

A 700 flying with a 6s? What is your degree of pitch?

A lot.. . It has the beast on it right now which I setup with +/- 14 degrees. Hover is at about 80% stick so it's probably hovering around 10 to 12 degrees (Radix v2 710 FAI's)

I also have a 470kv motor in it right now since I run lowish HS with 12S too, but I should have tried this when I had the 510kv in it instead. That would give a little higher HS.

But it's still -ish flyable, and sounds a lot like a full scale. You can see the blades turning.

Climbouts are really, er, scale-like,....

yeah Im going to try to find a way to take video. It's kind of like much mushier version of this (this was my inspiration for trying this for grins today):

Collective management at it's finest.

Be careful with such a low headspeed on a 700e with 6s. I am sure it is not as responsive as your used to flying.

Yeah that was the first thing I had to get used to. The wind was 15 gusting to about 25 to close to 30 when I got to the field, which gave the illusion of more collective (because I was basically in FF in the hover at the time). But on the 3rd or 4th flight the wind died down and I nearly pancaked it into the runway once lol.

You _must_ avoid settling with power situations, i.e. on approach. You can't just ram your way out of it like normal...

But what fun. Sounds so scale and is really super stable. And forever flight times....

BTW, I shot a couple autos and it's the same as in matt botos' video. I could hear the HS actually spooling up and up and up as it came down... hilarious.

Fun stuff!
I was messing with some low HS on a 600SE, its a blast! Collective management takes on new meaning :-)

This was my second flight with low HS and I could blow my tail out at will as my set up wasn't optimal.

Best way is to just take the rear pack off your tray and just run 1 pack. I never even considered using both packs because its alot of weight for such a slow head speed. I just use the same setup i.e. pitch etc. You can do some pretty decent 3d with it and the sound is amazing!

60% of the time, it works every time!

I was going to try that, but I was uncomfortable with how long I'd have to make the leads going to that batt. For CG, it would have to sit way in the front and the ESC is mounted on the back.

Plus, where I live the winds are always howling so the heavier the machine I have the better. So I just hooked em in parallel which gives a good, low resistance setup...

But yes look at matt botos' synergy and it's like an F3C machine in the air without the additional weight....

There's something I can't really do with nitro.lol...

I tried 1800 head speed today and it runs too rough for the 3GX that is hard taped to the heli.

Need at least 1900 for a smooth FBL flight and a nitro engine.

I wanna see video...actually,just sound.lol...

Y'all can duplicate Matt's setup in RF 6 with the E7. Reduce the Gov setpoints to N-900, FM1-950 and FM2-1050 and cut the FBL gains on AI and EL to 50% and you have a Low HS machine that is pretty close to what Matt was demoing in the vid. Collective management will be a challenge.

You can do it with a nitro, but it's not real good for the motor lol.... IIRC, I can get my GY701 governor to go down to about 1000rpm. I tried it once when I had the .91 in the 700N and the engine was not happy with what I was doing to it.

The 105 might be a little less tortured at those speeds, but it would probably still be lugging real bad...

I'll take the iphone out with me today and if someone's at the field I'll try to get them to take some video. My 700E is the old-school V1 with the spur gears on the main/pinion, so at those speeds there's a really loud whine. Out in the pattern, it sounds _just_ like a turbine. With the blades going that slow, it's pretty realistic....

Yepper, the real thing has been really interesting so far.

I'm going back out to the field in a bit after doing the Matt Botos mod and actually removing one of the batts. I relented and soldered up a big ol fat ol connector (2 pieces of 12guage wire 4 or 5" long stuffed into butts of a pair of EC5's) to connect the ESC to the front batt. Since the ESC is mostly at wide open most of the time anyway, I'm hoping the ripple voltage won't be too high.

But the weight reduction of a 5200mah align 6s may help reduce the amount of pitch (and power) needed to hold the hover and may make it even more fun to fly.

This is neato, you dudes should try it...

That's not my heli or engine though Lon.
It's also not my FBL.

My stuff flies like crap at 1800 so I won't be doing it.
No need to re-tune everything to make a few lazy ass flights.lol...

And the OP is flying at less than 1000 RPM.

I literally never use the word literally right.
