i have a venom pro that has a 5 amp max charge rate. right now i can only get it up to 2.3 amps with 22-23 volts in the lipo. as the amps rise in the lipo the charge rate decreases, which is normal. the problem though is, it is takin 100-120 min to reach 25 volts, which is way to long. even on fast charge it wont go above 2.3 volts. what do i need to do or buy to get charge times down to under an hour.im charging 5000 mah 6s 40c zippys,

thanks

How many watts per port is your charger. My Hitec X4 is a 200watt charger, but only 50 per channel, so my 6S batteries can only charge at about 1/2C. You migh need a bigger charger if you want to get your charge times down. I am thinking about doing the same

I looked that charger up and if it's the same one I found, it's a 50 watt charger and will only charge at 2.3 amps, you need a bigger charger like a icharger 208, something that has at least 230 watts or more to handle big 6s 5000mah lipos. Get a bigger charger, you will be a lot happier.

well that sucks, why do they advertise it to be a .1-5.0 charger when it is only 50 watts.

I am imagine they advertise it as an up to 5amp charger because if you are charging a pack such as Hyperion, which can handle high C rated charging, then you potentially charge it up to 5amp. For instance, if you were to charge a 3S 11.1V battery on that charger, you could charge at 4.5amps. Not all manufacturers of batteries are rated to handle this time of charge, but some are.

Volts X Amps=watts

11.1V X 4.5amps=49.95 watts.

In your case of a 22.2V battery

22.2V X 2.3amps=51watts

You are definately slow charging your batteries because that is 1/2C which could easily take upwards of 2 hours. I really wouldn't want to charge a battery at more than 45 watts on a single port rated for 50 watts.

Definately need a bigger charger. Icharger and FMA are both great chargers that offer high single port outputs

Because it will charge a smaller number of cells, such as 2-3, at 5A.
Always remember, the more cells, the higher the voltage, and the higher the voltage the less amps any charger will give based on the max output watt rating.

Your charge time with a 50watter sounds right. 5000mah is a big nut to crack for a small AC charger.

It doesn't hurt anything and I personally think slower is better. An Icharger plus power supply combo can be had for $175. You can do 2C (10Amps) and get the charge time to under 25 minutes.

There are a lot of ways to do this if you are in the hobby for the long haul. One way that works well is to invest in a Honda/Yamaha 1000Watt Generator ($900) and a quality charger (FMA Cellpro 8) that allows you to charge at 3-4C if your pack allows it. With this setup, 3 packs can last a whole day of fly/charge, hardly ever stopping.

A little more economical setup that takes a little bit of Do-It-Yourself is to hook up 2 Deep Cycle Marine Batteries in the trunk of your car to charge while your driving. You charge off the Marine batteries when you are at the field and can get close to the same result--or atleast until the Marine Batteries are drained.
