My turbulance build is ready for servos, Engine, Blades and fbl controller. Im liking the Futaba line for servos, and open ended as far as engines are concerned.

Currently I really enjoy doing FAI style of flight.Im looking for sugguestions on what gear best suits my needs for the current model im building.

When I bought the Turbulance, I decided to go FBL for the first time. I have the Hirobo SSL FBL head. I have no directions on this specific design, and while being new to FBL, I was wondering if you guys could point me in the right direction to setting up this head. For some reason, there is no direction for this set up, only Flybarred.

Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

I'm actually looking for the manual for this head as well and recommended setup, otherwise I'll just use the standard settings. Main adjustments are the three holes on the pitch arms and the diameter on the servo wheels. Comes down to the FBL controller being used and getting it within the recommended throws/resolution. I'm going to give the vbar silver line a go on my first d3, will see how that goes and then choose a second controller for d3 number 2.

Futaba HV servos on cyclic would be great if you can afford them. My d3 is still flybar but about to convert (actually got two projects running now, FBL conversion and motor swap out to a ys120). I currently run bls451's and bls253's, both have been awesome, no complaints.

I use currently edge 710 mains, 105 tails. With the FBL setup, to get approximately the same disc, I would run 690's (I will be running them). The SSL head has wider bolt to bolt spacing than the FB head. Two options you could look at are the edge 690se's or the Dominic haegele 690s. The Dominic blades looks the goods and for fai would probably perform better as well (and they are Dominic's design! ). The advantage of the edge is the 50% crash replacement.

Make sure your d3 is running smooth and run 105 tails. I've tried both 95's and 105's and it has much better authority with 105's. 95s did fly well, however, I could get thee tail to blow out in fast backwards flight if I tried, the 105's hold like a vice but do need to be well balanced.

if you look at the manual for the Freya D3 SSL that will at least give you some information to go from around the SSL head:

For the most part, the stock FB servo arm radii for the FB D3 may yield more control throw than will be required for the ideal travel range for many FBL controllers. If you go with the FB servo wheel radii, be prepared to reduce the radii if throw is excessive. Understand that any and all manual recommendations are for the CGY750, so allow for this if you are to use another FBL controller.

From the Futaba line, BLS255HV's work exceptionally well with FBL control systems. BLS252 and 253's work well also.

I have a personal preference for OS, so the 105 would be my choice. The model's gearing is suitable for that engine. If you are a YS man, get a 120.
