I see in all the pictures of the real birds that the tail rotor is on the opposite side from where RC Models are... can I reverse the side on which the tail rotor is? ... I know the mechanics of how but... I just wonder if it should/ could be done?? does it really matter which way the blades are spinning as long as the movements are correct ? Just wondering

Thanks in advance !

I have a 500 size MD500E with the main spinning CCW and the tail on the lefthand side (as seen from the back) and it also spins CCW just like the real 1:1 heli.

It flies great , you just have to get used to it leaning to the left instead of to the right.

I am sure it would work with a belt drive but will it with the torque drive? do you hav eany close-ups of your tail assembly?

Well yes it will work with a TT drive , all your really doing is rotating the tail rotor gearbox.

If you swap the direction of rotation it still will work , you just have to flip the oneway bearing over on the main.

No I don't have any other pics of the gear box it is just a stock Align plastic 500 gear box.

Thanks again.... does your rudder control arms end up being on the top then ? IF I reverse the onway bearing ... does this mean you are actually running the engine backwards? or am I missing something DUH ?

Thanks !

yes it would only work if you use an electric motor... and yes the linkage will be on the top of the tail boom

No you can swap the side the tail is on , you just can't change the direction in which the head spins.

It doesreally matter which direction the tail rotor spins , up into the rotor wash or down throgh the rotor wash.

Eather way it will work and yes the linkage will be on the top unless you can find a fliped linkage , SmartModel was supposed to be making one that put the linkage back on the bottom but I have not heard anything on it yet.
