Hi everyone,

I almost finish the build of my new Trex 700E FBL and have done very, very basic setup meaning the moving directions of cyclics, tail and the compensation directions of the CGY are in good order. Other settings are default.

Can anyone share the setting of their CGY that work good in a 700E?

The equipment on this Trex is pretty standard:
- 8FG super tx
- 6208SB rx with Sbus to CGY
- JR 8325 digital servos and S9256 tail servo
- Align 3G blades
- Scorpion 4035-530KV motor
- PowerJive 120HV
- 12S 5000mAH

I am using the gov and BEC of the Jive with a buffer pack to power the electronics on-board.

Thanks,

Chris

The maiden flights were smooth and enjoyable.

First my cgy is intended for F3C flights.

It turns out that no matter how I tweak the setting in the cgy, tail bounce is still there In hovering unless I pumped up the head speed so the conclusion is to replace the dampers in the V2 head with softer dampers. I forgot the 700E V2 is for 3D use. No tail bounce observed anywhere in aerobatics.

Another thing is, on the bench, there is no ail-ele interaction for a roll to the right, in the air it has minor cork screw so I guess a little mixing is needed to correct this.

The JR servos turn out to work with head response set at 2 quite well as they work a little bit warmer than in my FB machine.

My basic set up is 55% AFR at 8.5 degree cyclics, 65% overall gain, I gain is 35% ail, 30% ele, D gain is 20% ail, 10% ele. Flight mode 3. Avcs.damping is at 100%, rate.cst is at 100%. roll rate is on the fast side.

I did not do trim flight but rely on setting the cgy to level the
swash.
Other than the tail bounce in hovering, I am very happy with the cgy
so far.

I like to thanks those who contribute their knowledge or experience of setting up this controller. My setting was based a lot on their sharing here in RR or in another forum. Keep on your good work guys.

As I've posted elsewhere, the tail bounce in the hover is par with the 750 and I had the same problem with my two trex 700's (one is an E and the other the N). Something's apparently broken in the 1.2 firmware which is what causes this. The only fix that worked for me was to use a different FBL unit.

Hopefully a FW update will be forthcoming that'll fix this problem...

I have a 700E set up for F3C and hover at 1650 RPM and do not have issues with tail bounce. I have had issues with aileron wobble, but have it working pretty well with head response 4 and D Gain at 25%.

I tried the red softer dampers and I did not really see much difference, I am back to the the Align black dampers.

Even though reducing the D Gain in Aileron helped a lot, I found that reducing it for elevator resulted in bouncing in quick stops and I am currently running the default of 200% on elevator with a head response of 4.

Hope this helps - Greg

Same here, no wobbles or tail bounce in two trex's but I'm running 25% D gain on both.

so does that mean that you guys don't believe these people are experiencing this wobble or bounce and that nothing needs to be done about it ???

as both your comments seem rather dismissive to me.......

So this mean that one can only bash the product here? Is working for me and is working fine, some may have problems with the unit i dont.so i try to help people, like i said im running 25% on the D gain, maybe that will help.
If you don't like what I post..... Hey, you don't have to read it.

Thanks guys.

I started with D gain setting from 20% and tried 15, 10% still the same.

I believe it is the head with stiff dampers, combined with rigid blades, low rpm(I want the rpm round 1450). There are limitation of the controller(at this FW version) where the feedback to the close loop control is so quick and rapid, it can not cope with and result in bounce or wobble.

When I pumped up the rpm, all the bounce and wobble gone. It can sit still in hovering. The rpm is round 1600.

I will tweak the setting after I change to soft dampers.

I think Futaba should beef up their manual by giving more details of each parameter that are opened for user set up.

Cheers,

Chris,

Your assessment is correct with respect to the dampers and so forth. To run headpseed that low, you will need to drop the overall cyclic gain a fair amount. Yes, that seems backwards as compared to typical tail rotor gyro set up, but the lower the headspeed especially with stiff rotor systems, the lower the total gain will need to be. As you will also surmise, the ratio of electronic to mechanical gain will have to be more biased to the former when pushing the system with lower headspeed. Small servo arm radii do wonders.....

Hi Doc,

You may be right that I am more biased to electronic gain as mine is running total gain at 70% hovering without seeing any wobble or bounce.

I am using the inner holes of standard Align servo disc for JR servos, same as Hashimoto's 700E shown in here:

If I use shorter servo arm radii, what would I need to change in the CGY to optimize the performance?

Changed to Align red dampers(for F3C) and it works. I set my rpm range low to surpass the setting that I got a tail bounce with black dampers.
