i think my ipod touch 3rd gen took a poop on me. A few days ago on monday its working fine and tuesday in the middle of the day the seccond row of apps from the bottom stops responding. (above the solid 3 or 4 boxes on the very bottom that stay put when scrolling through screens)

I can not click/tap on anything in that row but the keyboards still function perfectly fine. Scrolling using that row area works but not taps to open apps or anything.

i have tried cycling it on and off with no luck, i just restored it today and that didnt do anything but take my time and mess up a few things.

Apple "customer support" told me that i had to pay $30 just to talk with a tech specialist and that because the warrenty is expired they cant do anything and basicly told me to go away or buy another one. Not too pleased with these people..

any thoughts of what might be wrong?

Assuming you backed up during your last app upgrade, keep trying to restore.

Last time my apps locked up, it took three restores before I got them back. Kind of a pain. But, that's the way it was.

I did back everything up I just had a few apps from the previous owner that I liked that couldn't save..and no matter what is on that given row they don't work. That wouldn't be the same would it?

That $30 fee is a shame. If you lived near civilization it would be free.

When my Apple products act up I just make an appointment at the Apple store in the mall located about 10 miles from the house and bring it in.

My Powerbook G4 was acting strange and they diagnosed the hard drive was failing after 8 years. Told me where to get a new one and where to get instructions to replace it. After replacing the drive they moved as much data as possible from the failed drive to the new drive and all at no cost.

The $30 might be worth it based on the cost of replacement. If they diagnosis the problem look it up on iFixit.com. They may have a full description on how to fix it.

Good luck.
