I just bought a Spektrum AR7200BX and plan to convert my Trex 450 SE V3 to FBL.

My understanding is there are a couple of ways I can go about this conversion. Buy the 450 pro head parts, and convert, or buy the Align conversion head and do a conversion by modifying the main shaft to work with the Align conversion head.

Just wondering what people that have been down this road have done, and what would you would recommend, and what are the pros and the cons of either one?

Thanks!

Dwight

I fly my 450SE V1 with the original BeastX. I've used three different heads on this machine, Align Sport, Align Pro, and currently have an RJX head on it. All flew fine, not much difference between them at all. I currently have the Pro head on my 450 Pro, the Sport head on my 450SA, and the RJX head is still on the 450SE. I'm using the original main shaft with no modifications and no issues.

Thanks Gerry!

It sounds as if the cheaper Align head will work rather than buying the more expensive Pro head parts and going that route. I only fly this as a sport style heli and don't see me doing any 3D type flying in the foreseeable future.

I guess I’ll find out what the recommended modification to the main shaft is when I pick up the Align head at my LHS the end of this week or when they have in stock. I understand that whatever the mod is it can be done with a Dremel Moto tool, but there is a chance it may weaken the mains shaft if not done properly.

Most likely something to do with ensuring the correct geometry when set up, but I’m not sure….

By the way, I'm currently flying two of the 7200BX units. One is on a Thunder Tiger Mini Titan E325 and the other is on a Gaui 200.

Just follow the manual and the 7200 BX is a breeze to set up and man oh man do they fly great.

For your 450SE V2, just get the complete Align Sport head and matching swashplate. Use your existing main shaft. You'll end up with a great sport flying heli.

Glad to hear from someone actually flying this unit, and loving it!

I went to my LHS to buy a BeastX for the Trex 450 and after I was told of the AR7200BX and the fact it cost only $40.00 more than a BeastX without 7 channel receiver I was sold on it. Great getting another 7 channel Spectrum receiver for $40 bucks.
Can’t wait till I have the head to complete the conversion. Wow, Saturday seems so far away right now!

I also have one of the original BeastX units, currently installed on my 450SE V1. Nice unit, but you are right, the combo with the receiver is the bee's knees. I'll continue to convert my fleet to FBL, and I think the Spektrum 7200BX will be my targeted controller/receiver unit.

By the way, I'm using the 7200BX by itself on the Gaui 200. I do have a sat receiver installed on the Mini Titan, but that is primarily due to the fact that that airframe is going into a scale fuselage. I just wanted to make double-sure that I have good radio link with the heli.
