8J
just got one, haven't flown it yet,in your hands it feels good like the 12fg really like the joystick, menus are very easy to navigate some other cool new features as well, purchased the 5 cell NIMH battery..definitely looks and feels like a winner

make sure you get extra receivers as they use a different transmission protocol
and are not compatible with fasst and fasstest receivers
no model memory backup, you can just transfer models 8J to 8J
wirelessly

I used an 8J during E-Fest this year. We put a new set of AA's in on Thursday night, played with the radio, programmed 3 models, flew all day Friday, Saturday and till noon on Sunday and TX still said 4.8V after 8 hrs of TX time on.

The runtime with a set of inexpensive alkalines is so long that the modest cost for them is more than worth it for most flyers who will not be concerned with charging a transmitter before they go flying. You are literally talking about the batteries lasting for months in the hands of pilots flying just a few days a week and once bench set up and so forth is complete.

Yeah I know there are other vendors that carry this radio but tower seems to have the best deal with the 25 dollar off coupon and free shipping

Does anyone know if the air version of this radio comes with the flat spring for the throttle because it looks like that radio will be in stock sooner than the heli settings default radio?
Oh and the other reason I want to use tower is because of there easy pay program which I am sure no other online hobby store has this way I can break the cost of the radio up over 3 months.

Besides the price difference, I can think of the simplicity of the switches layout and spacing (8FG are most 3 position while 8J are two position), simplicity of the programming (less menus), display information arrangement and radio overall look.

Yes david thats why!! The reason I switched is the ease of programming and cheap RX's and the spacing between the switches are more room than the 8fg. The 8fg has too much crap I will never use and I didnt like the way the gyro menu was either
