I have not heard much about this unit.

The few posts that are out there are from two sources, mostly.

I don't really care what a rep or the company says.

Is anyone flying this unit. If so, how is it?

Is it easy to set up?

Does it fly well out of the box or do you need to tweek on it?

Are the instructions adequate, and do they explain the settings or is it magic?

Help me, I'd like to hear from the real world.

Thanks

I was hoping more people would review the 540 too. I just bought a mini vbar, but was also thinking about trying he new 540. I already have a micro beast. Just looking for a system that is different. How does the piro comp hold up. On my beast the heli doesn't hold too long and I notice the tail tends to speed up and slow down hen doing piros while FF. I seen guys with a vbar setup and heli seems to hold really well and really consistent when doing piros.

Im running this unit on a trex 450 pro and it is working great . It is very easy to set up because there are videos on how to do it . I pulled a cgy750 off of the heli because of the difficulties of getting it to fly correctly . Go to skookum and watch the set up videos befor you buy and you will see what im talking about . Also there is a wiki pages on this unit with good info . http://www.skookumrobotics.com/wiki...title=Main_Page http://www.youtube.com/user/SkookumRobotics

I'm really happy with mine. Just sold my last vBar to convert my fleet.

I thought the instructions were barely adequate but if you can follow what the software says it is easy to setup. I didn't need to tweak mine, I just adjusted the gains and it flies great. Piros are great, no whipping and the heli tracks perfectly in a piro.

I wrote a review on mine a week ago. I was using the cgy750 previous to this one, and I can assure you that I am definitely not a Rep or anyhow affiliated with skookum

I put one on a 600N, stock settings, adjusted tail gain, does seem to piro really well, didnt see any weirdness, heli has some mechanical issues but the 540 seems to be able to ignore that ( bearings/clutch)

I am considering putting one on my whiplash gasser after my cgy750 took a dump. Will the 540 sensors hold up to a gasser?

Hi All,

I have been running all my helis on Sk720's the first one I converted 2 and 1/2 years ago with no problems what so ever.

I own 3 turbine helis all with SK720's thats how much I trust them.

I have shown a few of my flying buddies the light and they have converted their helis to skookum

I purchased 3 SK540's recently and fitted one to my predator gasser...what can I say...perfect.

The reason I fitted a SK540 to the gasser was that one of my mates was in need of a Skookum so I pulled it out of the gasser as I was using that heli at the time.

I am using the stator gator on the SK govenor...Perfect.

Set up easy, no tweeking necessary, flys straight out of the box.

I think the reason there is not much posted is because they dont stuff up too often, so really there is nothing to write

Kind Regards, Craig.

A couple of other things that may be of interest.

All my helis are fitted with digital servos so I have been ditching the regulator and running on LiFe batteries just plug straight in to your electronics and away you go.

So all you end up with is 5 servos a Skookum with 2 satellites hanging off it and a battery, so simple, less to go wrong and easy to fault find etc.

I recently converted a Raptor G4 to turbine with the same set up and there is not much in there even with the turbine gear.

Oh so simple, Oh so neat.

I used my Raptor 50 as a test bed for my theories as this is my sunday flyer...hundreds of flights with out so much as a glitch.

Hope this helps.

Kind Regards, Craig.

The fact that the 540 is almost half the price of a Silverline Vbar when you consider the fact that you have to pay to upgrade the Vbar on top of buying one is making me want to try a 540. Well, I thing I'm gonna go order one. Should I use the stock mounting tape on my gasser or the Zeal?

Hard mount your sk-540.

Mine is and using a OS 1.05 Fuel splashing around in tank at idle up like a mini storm with so much vibration and the sk-540 just laughs and works like it should no matter what.

IMO it is better than the two V-bar 5.3 pro I use on two other machines.

Cheers,

Raven

I don’t fly Scale but there is a special setup for scale. The firmware between the 720 and 540 is basically the same and the 720 is excellent for scale so the 540 should be just as good. It will not have self-leveling but it is much less sensitive to vibration.
