I always wanted to build some form of a scale 500. I was looking at the century bodies. They recommend century mechanics for the install. Do you have to use them or could you wrap that body around a raptor? Any information on this matter would be great as I really don't know where to start. I do want a 50 size machine. Multi rotor head and tail rotors would be great but can be added later on, as money allows.

Sorry forgot to mention I fly nitro not electric

I have a Hughes MD500 Military by Century with Align 600N converted to 600E with clutch. I also have a Thunder Tiger MD530 Civilian with Raptor 50 nitro mechanics. Photos below.

If you are going with nitro I would suggest the Thunder Tiger. The Raptor 50 Titan, long boom, mechanics fit like a glove and flies nice too. Do to the age of Raptor mechanics you should be able to get it all for a good price.

This hobby is WAY too expensive!!

How is the quality of the century kit? Are there many additional things needed to complete the install. Basic install. As I stated before I would like to put a multi rotor head on it but will have to wait a bit.

The century fuses are nice. Fiberglass quality is pretty good, the directions leave some questions tho. There is plenty of help here to get you thru it. I have a raptor titan in a century jetranger and it flies great. The one thing you will have to kinda do on your own is bracing the upper fuse. Search this forum for hughes/md500 and you will see what I mean. Long story short go with the century fuse and you will not regret it. Good luck with the build and welcome to the scale side.

I don't always fly helis, but when I do I prefer to fly scale.

Thanks for the input.. I suppose every type of build had some minor items that need to be addressed. I just think it would be cool to pull one of those things out of the back of the truck and fire it up. Correct me if I'm wrong but most people would just like its appearance, no one is expecting you to pull it out and start doing tic tocks.
I reall like some of the century camo offerings. Should be fun

Does the stock muffler fit easily inside the body?

The stock muffler fit in my jetranger, I"m not sure about the 500 but I believe it is wider so you shouldnt have any issues.

I don't always fly helis, but when I do I prefer to fly scale.
