No idea.

Cranking the first time, the engine was started ok. Shutting it down and doing some adjustment, and then cranking it the second time, it broke.

Glad it did not happen in midair or it may have fallen out and hit the blades.

I drop the engine, and take out the broken clutch shaft remains. My mouth drops open when I see this. There is a hairline crack right at the tip to the point where the shaft is sheared off.

How possible could that be? Could that be damaged by my Align super starter with the impact drill effect or my 5S Dynatron with Sullivan shaft that has too much torque?

and do you think I need to replace this clutch coupling?

Rudy,

Your coupling is still fine. When the grooves starts warping, then it's time to change it.

I am surprised that you snapped off the shaft without trashing the plastic cross coupler. It is still plastic isn't it ?
