Popping a balloon
Tomorrow I want to place a balloon on the ground and then fly my Trex 500 upside down to pop it. In order to achieve this, I have to stay inverted just a few inches off the ground.

My question is that will the turbulence after popping the balloon interferes my Trex 500 causing a crash?

How are you planning to fix the ballon to the ground?

After you know how you are doing this the rest is the easy part. The pressure stored in the ballon is small enough to be considered irrelevant to your 500.

In my opinion, you have a 50-50 percent chance of crashing your 8 hundred dollar heli for a 1 cent balloon, so its just not worth it. But that's just my opinion. Let us know if you try it.Bald Pilots usually wear hats!

I understand the risk, and I have no room for error. It is just a few inches off the ground. That is why I ask here for opinion.

If you don't want to risk crashing, you could always use an anchored helium ballon. That way you can pop it 2, or even 10 metres off the ground if you want.

You could pop a balloon in your face and feel what force it makes. I don't think you will feel it. The heli won't either.Tom

Myself and another guy did this before, it was a long type balloon. It is amazing how hard it is to actually try and get to an exact spot while inverted. The other problem wad the balloon did not want to play nice so you had to come at it from the side and not above.

I was able to pop it with my trex 600 nitro, my buddy once the balloon popped jumped and added positive instead of negative, resulting in a crash.

I have pictures somewhere I will dig the up and post them.

I've seen this attempted with a tethered helium balloon. It did not go well. The balloon wrapped up in the rotor and down came heli. Your results may vary.Ask your doctor if your heart is healthy enough for Radio Control Helicoptering.

Its not too hard if you are comfortable with low inverted. Weight the balloons down with something so they stay put.

Just make sure there is no nylon string hanging from the balloon.

I pictured a traditional round balloon hanging from a string. I couldnt imagine being able to pop that. But, the videos help make sense of balloon play.

I will have to have my son try that with our mCPX. Should be lots of fun. If we get to try it I will get a video of it. I don't think I'd risk my 550. Another way to have some fun with the mCPX. Chuck.
