Need your opinion how to deal with the situation like this
I sold a guy at HeliFreak an Align starter a while ago. I have sent in the picture and precisly described to him that I was not able to detach the starter shaft as something is stuck. Other than that, it is in good working condition. The guy said that is fine, and he will take care of it.

So I sent it to him. Upon the receipt, the guy said he also was not able to take the shaft out, and he told me he finds it useless as he wants it to be shared between starting planes and helis. So, he requested sending me back the starter for a refund.

I said it is ok as long as it is in its original condition. The starter showed up today but was broken. It will not turn when I press the button.

So, what should I do now? I cannot send him the refund because he apparently broke it and it was not in its original condition. But what if he files a paypal claim?

Please advise.

Let Paypal figure it out. That's what they are paid to do.
It is sickening to continuously give them 3% of all my sales.
I say it's time for them to cough up and take a loss.

So, should I file a paypal complaint first? I think the buyer is gonna do it anyway.

If you have your money, I would tell the buyer what happened and let him file a claim. And I would tell him in a nice way. No need to get stressed.Tom

Sorry to say but it's your word against his and because he was the customer most likely PP will side against you and freeze your PP account until he gets his refund.

Pay him the doe and take your lumps.

Wow, are you serious Paypal will handle like this? If that is the case, someone can buy an expensive item, claim something wrong but in fact nothing is wrong, and then send a broken one back to the seller.

Do you have pictures before and after? That should help your case if you can see the damages. But if it's internal, that is harder to prove.

Did the circuit breaker button tripped? Did you try to trouble shoot it?

If you told him in the beginning that the shaft does not remove, that should be his problem if he changes his mind. Was the shaft still stuck on the starter? Was this a switched return?

Yes, I have the before and after pictures. The after picture has tons of scratches.

I have not troubleshoot it yet. It will turn a few rounds and will just stop. The base can move freely before I send it, but now it hardly moves. The shaft is still stuck.

I have all the email correspondence in Helifreak that hopefully can back me up.

I think he switched it with you. It could have had that many scratches that fast. Are you should that was the same one?

Good luck and I would file with PP right away.

Yes, that is the same one. He did not switch it. He just screwed it up.

Just go into PP and realize that a seller has no way to file a complaint.

I generally stay away from HeliFreak, there seem to be a lot of potential problematic individuals in addition to hot tempered punks over there. Good luck with that situation, best advice is to try work it out with buyer otherwise PP will side with them 95% of the time. The picture may help you though.
