Handmade in Japan versus made in China with a lousy Yen exchange rate. You have to decide if the handmade, small family business quality Hatori justifies the price asked.

My Hatori's definitely worth it, but I'm also a fan of the Curtis pipes. I've used them since the very first MP and would probably have gotten it instead if it'd been out at the time.

It's a good pipe, good product.

To be clear, I am not pissing on Curtis's product. There is just no way that a Japanese product with expected quality can compete in price point with Chinese materials and labor and currency exchange.

I'm not quite sure what your point is, then.

I think the MP is an excellent pipe, having used them for many years ever since CY invented the very first one. For the money, it's probably the best bang/buck available in a pipe - I was only grinding my teeth that I got my 105 before the MP7 was available for it.

Like I said, I love my Hatori and it's a superb pipe but to be perfectly honest, if the MP had been available at the time, I'd have gotten it instead. Not just for the price delta but because it's still a great pipe.
