Xera 4530 gear ratio problems
So I've been searching for the best gear ratios for this motor on my 700 while running straight cut gears. I've tried gearing it down with a 13t, 12t, and then up to a 11t. I've been trying to run a head speed of 2100-2150.... And have noticed a few differences mainly in temps and run times. 3mins with 13t, 3mins 20 sec on 12t and about 3mins 40sec on 11t. The 13t had great power but ran hotter than I would like and then every tooth I lost on pinion the cooler everything ran but I did notice a DROP in power.(Slight but noticeable) What do you guys recommend I do as far as a good gear ratio combination? I would love to get an understanding of this motor as far as peak torque rpm so that I could compliment it with the proper g/r.

From MrMel headspeed calc
Assumptions - 700e castle gov 65c bats

Result for calculation:
Estimated lowest voltage during flight: 42,48
Lowest RPM (due to voltage and efficiency) : 1994

Headspeed requested: 2150
Pinion suggested is: 12
Castle program warning that max is at: 1980
a little over that is OK, it's just a warning

For some reason the headspeed calculator is off for me.
Running the jive 120....
With the 12t I'm getting 2150 at 65%
With the 11t I'm getting 2150 at 82%

I feel that at 82% it doesn't have the headroom necessary for proper power. Or is it just me?

Speaking with Kontronik, 65% is actually an ideal throttle setting to prevent hitting 100% PWM under load. You really need a JLog to know for certain, but between 65% and 70% should give you the best governor performance. If you gear too high (like 80%), when you hit maybe as little as 6 degrees of collective, the motor will hit 100% PWM and then you'll get bogging.Avant RC
