3gx , futaba r617fs rx and futaba 2.4 7channel tx
hi,

i'm having a hell of a time trying to connect an r617fs futaba rx to a 3gx and make it work right.

my radio is futaba 2.4 7tc.

after following the manual instructions, i can't make the pitch servo work properly. pitch and throttle channel seem to be mixed.

a picture (bellow) in the 3gx manual shows a r617fs with pitch as the 3rd channel and throttle as the 6th, but in the tx manual they are the opposite indeed.

do i have to change some setting on the radio?

thanks for any help.

I have that setup on a 3G. On the 3Gx the pitch servo has to be the one on the starboard side.

I usually start by making sure that the servos are traveling in the correct direction, individually, if not change the norm, rev in the radio. Then, I go into the swash menu and and start changing the direction until it all works.

That is just my method to the madness.

i'm exauthed trying to figure out how 3gx talks to a 617 futaba rx. i had to inverse the yellow and purple wires on the rx because i wasn't able to make the swashplate servos work correctly.
that was my 1st guess yesterday, but for some reason it didn't work at that time. it seems i have to enter dir mode to make 3gx recognize the wire inversion.
fortunately found a post on the web confirm the fix what made me believe i was in the right way.
the problem is that 3gx info in the software and on the heli manual is complete crap! don't know how those guys who make very good helis can't take the time to do a better job with their manuals!
thanks.

hi,
here goes a picture on how the wires must go on the futaba r617 rx.
after that, enter dir setup and mess with swash-afr and servo-reverse to get your servos working properly.

Receiver connections:

Ch 1 - Aileron - RED wire
Ch 2 - Elevator - Orange wire
Ch 3 - Throttle - Violet wire
Ch 4 - Rudder - Green wire
Ch 5 - Gyro Gain - Blue wire
Ch 6 - Collective Pitch (Aux 1) - Yellow wire
Ch 7 - Governor (Aux 2) - Three wire cable (also supplies power and ground to the receiver).

-----

If you choose to use the transmitter CCPM mixing, then choose a SWASH TYPE of "HR3".

-----

Start the 3GX unit in DIR mode.

Use the transmitter channel reversing switches for the Aileron (channel 1) and Pitch (channel 6) to make it so that the two servos controlling the front left and right "corners" of the swashplate so that the servos move in opposite directions when you move the aileron stick back and forth. One must go UP, one must go DOWN. Don't worry at this point if the stick movement does not match which one goes up and which one goes down. Just make sure they go in opposite directions.

Next, use the channel 2 (elevator) reversing switch so that when you move the elevator (fore/aft cyclic) so that the third (rear) servo moves opposite direction from the other two. If the front two move UP, the rear one needs to move down. Don't worry if the stick seems backwards from the actual movement.

With all that working, the servos move correctly with respect to each other. Now find the SWASH AFR menu, you will see an AILE, ELEV, and PITCH number, probably set to "60" each, and most likely all positive.

If the aileron function seems backward (swash tilts opposite from the stick motion), CHANGE THE SIGN of the AILE number. (If it is +60, make it -60; if -60 make it +60).

If the elevator function seems backwards (swash tilts opposite from stick motion, CHANGE THE SIGN of the ELEV number. (If it is +60 make it -60l if it is -60, make it +60).

If the collective pitch is backwards, CHANGE THE SIGN of the PITCH value. (If it is +60, make it -60; if it is -60, make it +60).

Now all servos should be moving the correct direction, and moving correctly with stick movement.

Complete the initial setup of the 3GX unit; setting the elevator travel, elevator direction, aileron travel and aileron direction.

Use the values in the SWASH AFR menu to set the +/-12 degrees of collective pitch, and the 8 degrees of elevator and aileron cyclic pitch.

Go through the remainder of the 3GX setup. Gyro settings AND Governor setup (even if you don't USE the governor, do the governor calibration steps).
