18MZ Model Transferring
Hey Guys,

Thinking of ordering a new 18MZ and hoping someone can tell me if there is an easy way of transferring all my helis from my 12MZ over to the new one. Not sure I would want to do them all individually by hand.

Thanks

Copy all your models from the 12Z to the compact flash card

Insert the card into a card reader with a USB plug on it.

Plug the reader into the 18MZ USB port

Turn on the 18MZ and copy the models from the card onto the 18MZ.

You do not need to use a SD card if you do not want to. The 18MZ stores everything internally. The SD card, or a USB thumb drive, are only needed for updates and for backup storage of your models.

With the 18, there will be a USB screen icon in the model selection menu that you select so the system looks at what is on the card in your reader. Model transfer is seamless.

In the 18mz manual it say the radio will directly read 14mz models. Does that also apply to 12z?
.
I have a multi card reader on my PC. Can I copy the files from the Compact Flash card to an SD card instead of using the USB port?

12Z files will upload. Take your pick on the transfer media format.

I copied my model files from my 12Z to a computer, then to my 18MZ 2 weeks ago. It worked perfectly. All you will have to do after that is rebind the RXs.

Guys,

One obvious precaution. PLEASE check ALL settings and configs when you do the switchover. It should be seamless, but safety and pocketbook dictate you check everything nonetheless.

Perhaps Futaba could update their manual?

IIRC there are only a few bytes that are different in the file format between the 14MZ and 12Z. You can copy a model directly from the 14MZ to the 12Z using the compact flash card. The only limitation was the length of the file name (model name). If it was too long the 12Z wouldn't see it as the 14MZ supported much longer file (model) names.

No reason it wouldn't work from the 12Z to 18MZ, but yes, the documentation should be updated to reflect this.
