How much motor shaft play is too much??
I have a Scorpion 4525-520LE motor in my Ballistic that has done 14 flights all up. Before installing the motor, if I can remember correctly the can had about 0.5mm of vertical play which sounds about right. This gap is included on purpose for thermal expansion I guess & a wavy washer is used under the circlip to take up this slack.

However I've noticed this gap is bigger, just over 1mm or so. Is this a bad idea & should I close this gap up more? It's been flying fine and if I'm right due to the helical gears used, the side force on the pinion pulls down the can all the way until the gap is taken up. Or maybe what is happening is when the motor unloads, the can jumps back up due to magnetic forces & then slams back down whenever loading up & therefore worsening the gap??

Strange thing is I have the same model motor in my ENV, main gear, pinion etc and its can doesn't budge at all!!

No up/down end play on my 520....

You might consider resetting the can on the shaft to remove the end play.

Forgot this thread too. Resetted the can leaving a tiny bit of play. After flying now has no more play, sweet!
