Telemetry and Futaba: a reality ?
I have been waiting for the telemetry sensors since the beginning of the year, and each month they are postponed by one month. One more time TowerHobbies has pushed them to next month, late April.
Do you have any reliable information about a real potential date ?
Thanks

The best information we have is the end of April. This looks pretty solid right now.

Do we have any confirmation to the rumors that the 8FG is just a firmware update away from being telemetry-capable?  ▲

is that even possible with the 8FG as i don't think it's capable of "receiving" a signal from a RX that was capable of sending telemetry info to the TX without extra hardware ?    ▲

No one from Futaba has ever denied it.

you know you do have a point there, that would be very cool if it was just a firmware thing......    ▲

as far as I understand it you wont get it in the 8FG, only 18MZ, you can get telemetry in a standalone box on all others.

You will need new receivers.

It is like the info about April was not so solid, now it is May and even June for the GPS!!! I think that the telemetry sensors will just arrive for next Christmas.
Why is it so difficult for Futaba when all the other manufacturers have already some complete system ?
Where are the wow features like the record of all the data in the t18 ?
I really start to think that Futaba was not the good choice to get quickly a complete telemetry equipment... Now I hope that it will be fantastic because they take the time to develop it!

Futaba somewhat lagged other market participants with release of 2.4 gHz too as they refined their product to what we have today. Many would agree that that wait was worth the product delivered based the extremely low rate of problems, so I would not be overly concerned with a modest delay for the additional telemetry sensors. The 18 afterall didn't even ship in Japan, let alone the US, until later December.

Does the 18mz have the option to log telemetry data so it can be graphically analyzed post flight? If it could that would be really cool for me!

Actually it was in the ad but personally I have never found the way to record the battery voltage. I can just follow it during the flight. I hope that a software update is going to add some other telemetry features to the current poor situation (no record, no voice, no rpm through the gy701 sensor...)

For my turbine and electric models I actually want a log of the telemetry data, I'm hoping someone like Dr.Ben will chime in here

I'd have to agree that being able to record telemetry for later review is really crucial. Without that, it's not really very useful for much.

Probably the full-scale training in me, but staring at a screen rather than the heli during a flight is really a big no-no:
- it's dangerous
- it's distracting and no fun
- it's having to do something the machine (the radio) should be doing for you-(c'mon guys memory is cheaper than water these days lol).

Being able to retrieve the events that occurred during a flight after the flight would _really_ make the telemetry worth it. I'd even consider an 18MZ if its telemetry was recordable. I'd have to go down to the bank for a loan, but I'd probably do it lol...

It is my understanding that many of the telemetry features will have voice callouts available with them. This will eliminate the need to take your eyes off your aircraft. If recording is also made available then you can go back and review the data as well.

I'm using the telemetry RX in a glider and get RX voltage. So far I have not looked down at it while flying. But it is nice to wiggle the sticks before letting it rip up the winch line and also a quick check just before shutting it off. I'm looking forward to being able to her it in flight and to record the information as well.

That would be nice. What would be cool would be if you could flip a switch or push a button to hear what data you want to hear when you want to hear it. For me fuel level. I fly profile planes a lot and some flights close to full throttle and others almost idle. I have always hated the timer with them. Home screen two is nice. It should be user configurable.

When telemetry is active Home Screen 2 can display the two large timers and up to 4 (I think) telemetry slots. Maybe more, I'm not sure. There are 31 total telemetry slots available.

I'm sure once the stuff gets out we'll have a better idea of what we can, and cannot, do.

Home screen 2 is user configurable except for the big timers. I would like to display 1 of the data's big like the timers. (Fuel data) Meaning 1 timer would be gone, Or I should say you could have what ever timer or data in any spot on home screen 2.

I'm guessing the first 18mz update will have some killer things in it. Not that the 18mz is not already killer.
