If you go NiMH, I recommend you go to http://www. cheapbatterypacks .com and get the highest discharge packs you can find.

People make the mistake of trying to use Sanyo Eneloops batteries thinking their self discharge characteristics are better. But these new "low self discharge" NiMH chemistry cells have very high internal resistance. What this means is that when your servos pull a lot of current, the voltage drops. You want to use something like "sub-C" cells with very very low internal resistance.

I am using 2000mAh 1/2A cells in mine. They are about the same size as a 4-cell AA pack, but the internal resistance is very low. That way, I can move the servos as hard as I want, and the voltage stays high.

I have a 3000mAh 7.2 volt Onyx high discharge pack I used on a rock crawler.

Good enough?

It is the pack I ran down and crashed.
Not positive I ran it down too much or if it was a broken connection but I went to remove the Deans to use on the LiFe battery and the positive wire just pulled right out of the shrink wrap...Was broken loose.

This is really the ideal battery for an application like this. The cells are very, very durable to overvoltage and overcharge. Moreover, the high-discharge capability of the cells help to act as a supplemental "capacitor" for the voltage ripples which may make it through the AC rectifier circuit. I think this is really the best choice for a generator battery in a helicopter.

Again, I LOVE lithium batteries, but just not for this application.

Will likely go this route then.
Thanks.

Kinda glad to get that lithium away from my heli

Now to get a better battery to fit in my Super Starter.lol....
Guess I could strap a 5S NiMH on the side.

The thing everybody seems to miss in my Lipo talk is that there is nothing to disagree with or even agree with for that matter.lol...

The only things I ever say is that it is possible for them to catch fire. That is an undeniable fact no matter what kind of spin anyone puts on it and the other thing is that I don't like them and have no patience for them...Personal opinion with no point to argue. Same as having a favorite color. You may have a different opinion or favorite but mine is not wrong and I will never say yours is wrong. Just not for me

The only points I ever flat out disagree with is the guys that say that if you take care of your lipo it will NEVER catch fire...That statement is wrong. It is always possible however unlikely.

Exactly that guy.lol...

I saw a video of a Thunder Power lipo on a Thunder Power charger burning so $$$ is not always an issue either.

The stock mounts didn't work so I'm using some old Frenzy 50 motor mounts to hold the BLS motor in place.

That's not Rajas mount. It's mine.

His is 1/2 inch too tall and stands up outside the frame.

No biggie though. I bought the electronics.
