So I shorted out the tail rotor MOSFET and I have been reading up on how to repair. Bought myself a good soldering iron and some helping hands and tried to remove the MOSFT with an exacto and I think I messed up the board. Below is a picture of my attempt at the removal and it seems that the surface mount came up with the burnt out FET. Can anyone comment if that is the case and if its possible for me to repair? I have ordered the tail FET but not sure if this board is toast. Need a steady hand for this job! Thanks everyone!

A little to the right and down!

It looks bad, but most likely can be repaired. I've been able to fix PC boards in worse shape than that.

Get yourself some 90% alcohol and a small acid brush and clean off all the old flux. Be careful not to rip any of the remaining traces off the board. If you happen to rip a trace, don't rip it off! Carefully clean the board and try to use a small dab of epoxy to put it back down. If you happen to rip it off, you can always replace the trace with a small piece of wire soldered to the cleaned board.

Use a very low wattage iron, or you'll make matters worse. If you give up, let me know, maybe I can fix it for you.

Thank you so much for your help. I gave it my best shot but I think I messed it up. I got it on the board but the tail rotor does nothing. I think the board might be too far gone.. It's very hard to keep a steady hand. I might try to pull it back off and clean it up but at this point I might order a new board. I'll reread your post again and maybe give it another shot..
