I am getting ready to pull the trigger on the Blade 450 X and would like to find out your opinion, someone that is NOT a rep or affiliate. It looks really cool in the video but the servos with plastic gears seem like a crash waiting to happen, that has been my past experience with non MG servos and CCPM.

I don't, but i did see one fly today. It was impressive. I might have to make room in the fleet for one. I wasnt keen on the tiny toy like tail servo but it held really well. Let me see if I can get the doctor to post about.

That was one of my concerns, the cool price and crackerjack looking heli turns into a very expensive inexpensive heli rather quickly. I have the Blade MCPX and really like it BUT, its got issues with the FBL control its either the MEMS sensor or Software. Considering the price and how it can hit the dirt hard and continue to fly still has me amazed.

The larger 450 size might not fair so well in a crash so the issue with the FBL / Tail would become a major costly issue. Its pretty tempting but my gut feeling is trouble.......

I wouldn't worry about the FBL unit as it uses a Beast X which is a very good proven controller.

Fwiw.

Bee flying the X for a week or so now...

Been comparing it to my "Custom" 450 Align V2...It is built from selected upgrade and FBI conversion parts, set up and tuned as well as I can manage...Uses 5065 cyclics, 9257 tail, KBDD t/r blades, etc..

The X flys better.

Heli servos are faster, ship is lighter, stock t/r blades work very well..Which is amazing if you look at them...

I have not had time to modify test much else on the heli, and I will, cuz I can't leave anything alone.....But literally , out of the box, it flys great.

As always, I recommend that ARF Helis be checked out and at least lubed as necessary, but this thing is an instant winner...And yes, it does auto....

Thank you for posting, I'm going to pull the trigger on a Carbon YAK plank instead of the Blade. Today was one the calmest days and at optimum temperature for flying so the Blade MCPX got a GOOD work out. Alot of the issues it had with the FBL gyro that might have been caused by turbulent air are still present in ideal conditions. Don't take this the wrong way, the little bird is very dear but the FBL control is half baked. Until they find someone that can get the FBL control working 100% I am going to stay with the old fashioned flybar. If the 450x would survive crashes like the Mcpx it would be a different decision....

Not sure what the issue is with the FBL controls. Bought 3 of the ACE gt5's and sent them back for a refund. Each one had a different issue, actually was pretty lucky only thing that was damaged was the Heli blade tips. Kinda suspect the MEMS sensors are not being tested and have poor QC. I don't believe the problems would be noticed in video game controllers because that is less demanding application so the manufacture just sends them out the door. Its extremely hard to second guess the problem without having all the pieces of the design in my hands, so don't take my FBL gyro comments with alot of merit.

Impressed
I've never been one for small helis. It took me a while to even get back into flying a 50 size nitro. Fortunately, the SDX (Hirobo) is one of the best flying helis I've flown regardless of size.

But, 450 size helis never even interested me until now. After 2 weeks of flying the 450X I am truly impressed. I am flying it completely stock and have only picked up one other battery for the machine. I need to pick up a couple more as it is seeing a lot of flight time in my back yard.

This little model is capable of pretty much everything. I admit, I had my doubts - even the tail with the stock tail blades works incredibly well. I just tweaked pot 3 on my AR720BX and set up a pitch curve. Everything else is how it came out of the box - simply amazing!

Today, flying in a light breeze I flew backward high speed figure 8's upright and inverted without a hint of the tail blowing out. The machine is stable and responsive and I get 5 mins of flying out of the battery.

For the money, I don't think I could wish for more.

Chris.

My Blade 450X Settings
Although touted as BNF, I went ahead and did a full setup on the AR7200BX (Using the SETUP menu). Everything was acceptable as is with one exception: One servo needed the servo arm repositioned by 1-tine on the servo wheel. This then made it necessary to adjust 1 link to the swashplate.

If you haven't purchased a AR7200BX stand-alone and received the printed manual, you pretty much have to download the manual from Horizon's web site:
http://www.horizonhobby.com/pdf/SPM...X-Manual_EN.pdf

Follow the instructions in the manual, particularly step G which is the swashplate centering. I also set my maximum positive and negative pitch at +/-11 degrees using a digital pitch gauge (and 6 degrees of cyclic per the instruction manual).

I used SETUP menu Step L and adjusted the cyclic limits so that the swashplate would just rise up to cover the ball. Authority is perfect for me though I don't generally bury the sticks in the corner for my style of flying.

The AR7200BX in the Blade 450X application has different factory defaults. Interestingly, in the PARAMETER menu, Step B default is TRANSMITTER (Blue, solid), whereas a standalone AR7200BX is set at SPORT (Red flashing). This means that you dial in your own favorite pitch curve and exponential on your transmitter.

I created my own pitch curves for N,1,2,H flight modes.

The only other adjustment I made was on Pot 3 for the Tail Dynamic. I increased this about 1/8 of a turn and the tail seemed much more solid. Tail gain is E during the few seconds it shows during initialization and seems more than enough though I have not attempted to tune it.

I also do not see the need to use Pitch Boost at this time as the model has plenty of power and responsiveness in collective pitch.

I have not yet lubricated the motor but I did purchase a bottle of the Scorpion oil and will put a drop on each bearing my next flight out. I have about 12 flights now on the model and so this should be an appropriate interval.

Everything else is as supplied and configured. Although I don't think the model needs any hop-ups, I think I'm going to bling it out just because I don't normally bling out my models! I've already backordered the red canopy and some shiny metal bits.

I think I'm going to try the 500 when it is released in July too.

I ordered one and got it Monday. Checked it over, charged the battery and took it for a spin. Right from the box it did very very well. From loops, stall turns, backwards flight to anything, it preformed GREAT!!! This is one I will keep for sure.

How many flights are you getting on a battery? I have (2) 2200mah 11.1V 25C and (1) that is a 30C 2200mah.

Thanks,
Charles

Fwiw...

I have several 2200 packs...Some are over two years old, still work fine even on the X...Flight times are right at 4 minutes, but are FUN!!!...I intend to try the 9T pinion, hoping to keep good performance but extend flight times a bit...My packs are all 25C except the stock E-Flite, which is rated 30C...Don't honestly see much difference in performance....
In the same vein, I got around to weighing the X in comparison to my metal and carbon 450....The X is almost two ounces lighter...Certainly explains some of the performance difference...
Still looking for something I don't like on it....Not really expecting to find anything...

The machine flys awesome right out of the box. I convinced quite a few folks to by one. The only thing is my motor is sounding a little rough and not making the same amount of power after 15 flights. Is not the batteries since i being using new multiple packs
