Anyone found a red that looks good on the Raptor? I picked up some RIT "Scarlet" and its too dark, good thing I tested it on some old parts. I want a brigher red that looks like the red Thunder Tiger paddles.

How well does Delrin take to dye?

You left the part in bit too long. The longer you leave it the darker it will get. It shouild work for you since it is a shade of red, it will not be an exact match for the paddles since the part was molded in a particular colour. Dye and then take it out after a few minutes, if it is still too light put it back in for a few more minutes. Once it is too dark (as you noticed) you can't go back. Trial and error at times.

YSR oooookay. I see your point.

The pictures from federstat's gallery show that it can be dyed in a good shade with a deft hand.

Delrin will take dye. It's a crystaline resin. It will tend to come out lighter than the dye you are working with but it works. Find a red you like and see how pinkish it comes out. You might get it dark enough. Scarlet is indeed an ugly dye though I cannot compare it to that used feminine hygiene product.

I have abandoned the project. The scarlet looks like a period stain and the Tulip brand "Bright Red" dye used for making those hipster shirts that dead heads wear with those dancing bears all over them is either pink or dark red similar to the scarlet. I dont have the time to invest into the science end of dying some parts. Black is easy and so was the purple I used on my last Raptor.

Dying plastic parts
Just set aside a spot for a decent burial and go get yourself some nice CNC metal ones.

I'm just going to sport the the white plastic for now. I had some aluminum gear on my last raptor, I think it was Quick UK? sucked.... looked cool, but I was always tweaking it back into shape.
