Ordered new parts for my 3D+ and they showed up yesterday! WooHoo!

As I was looking over my small pile of new parts, the replacement clutch liner came into focus. It looks different than what I have seen. It appears to have some type of adhesive back. It is a brown color substance that looks as if it was painted on with a paint roller.

Then I went to bend it slightly, and it snapped in half! Great! I wasn't aware it was brittle!!! I called and talked to John, and even he said that shouldn't have happened. A great heli with a junk liner…go figure. The old liner, the remains, just popped out with very little effort. There wasn't any hint of glue on the clutch bell. So now I'm completely baffled.

I guess I'll be ordering a Trex or MA clutch liner and JB wield it in...like the old days. I was told to try steaming the liner to make it more pliable...ok... So much for having ready for flight Saturday!

Outside of that, the rebuild is going fine. Replaced the tail grip (one broke) and packed the thrust bearings. Changed the belt and found the 3 screws holding the side plate on to the tail hub (the plate opposite the tail blades), were somewhat loose. No problem...I really need to go through this heli and check every nut and bolt (didn't do a thorough job of this).

Other than that everything else is in great shape.

I didn't think about that! I wound up ordering a clutch liner for a Trex 600 (comes two in a pack!). Then I called Nankin's, as they were out, and was told they were receiving a shipment later that day. So after work the bell's were in stock and I ordered one.

I'll use the stock replacement bell for now, and I'll prep the other one for later. Interesting note...the clutch bell wasn't loctited to the pinion (nor the liner glued to the bell), surprising nothing went wrong.

I also bought a Volt Magic Monitor primarily for the LiFe battery. It will be interesting to see how this works. Before this heli hits the air, I will test it out a couple of times to see where the voltage drop off is, then try it in the air. Should the LiFe pack fail again and crash my heli...I will switch to a LiPo (or Li-Ion) and regulator.

My 3D+ is almost done. All the broken parts have been replaced. I accidentally dropped my heli it on the left side (more like push it over) breaking the servo horn...I didn't have the landing gear on just then. So I had to replace it. In this replacing the one servo horn, I decided to check the others only to find two other horns were stripped...the splines. These MKS servo's are very tough! The feathering shaft was ok as well. The top mainshaft bearing wasn't so lucky, it was very notchy.

Outside of that, everything else was in great shape. Just need to install the new clutch bell, then the clutch assembly, motor, and bottom frame stiffener and its ready for a test flight.

My 6HV just needs the ESC programmed and it will be read as well! This couldn't have come at a better time...with the weather getting nicer.

Received both orders yesterday in the mail...gotta love it, USPS, I'm telling ya...

My 3D+ is almost done, I just need to install the motor and muffler and its ready for a test flight (along with my 6HV's maiden). I also need to program the Volt Magic Monitor to the proper cutoff. Then charge/discharge the LiFe pack several time to make sure the Volt Magic Monitor detects the cutoff point.

Saturday is looking to be a great day. Lower 70's with ~10 mph winds and lots of sunshine!

Need a smilie with sunglasses on...

Test flight!
Managed to put in 3 flights on my 3D+ yesterday. However, on the third flight, and about the same time as the last crash, the carb decided to come off! Thank God I was coming out of an inverted maneuver when the motor started to cough. Quickly hit throttle hold and landed.

Pulled the motor, cleaned everything well, and reinstalled the carb. Noticed the two bolt on the head were loose, and one was missing! Also the main head bolt was a bit loose! Good thing the carb came off!

My Compass 3D+ is flying much better now! Tighten both pinch bolts and the main head bolt, found two screws I forgot install...it was for the frame stiffner by the front landing gear.

Put 3 flights on it Sunday, 3 flights on my 6HV, and one on my Rave. After flying the Compass's for a while, the Rave seemed big...and fast! I almost forgot how much fun it was to fly.

However, the coolest thing I noticed is my fuel consumption. It has become less, now that I have two electrics...6HV & Protos 500. This is a good thing considering I need to strech 3-1/2 cases of fuel until August!
