Hey I'm liking the few new features of the 8FG's v5 firmware. The lock timer is very useful - I hate when I make an adjustment, lift off and hear beeping because my hand is pressing buttons while not locked, then land again, lock it, etc. Argh!

This feature is not new. Just had to lock the touch pad by pressing S1 for a few seconds.

How are people bumping the touch dial?
No matter how I hold the tx, I can't make the meat of my hand touch the dial.

Well, I'm a thumber, and I have big hands (big meat, if you will). I guess I'm the only one happy about this feature.

I'm a thumber, too. The meatiest part of my palm doesn't come within an an inch of the touch dial. But I have small hands.

I tried the new feature with the delayed lock and the locked-from-start (whatever we want to call it) modes.
I found them to be more of a nuisance than a convenience. I'll just lock it manually from now on.
But thats whats nice about this radio. So many features and we don't have to use all of them if we don't want to. To each their own.

Just for my own take on the issue of hitting the pad.

From day one I have been using my 8FGS with the eSpirt Tx tray here: http://www.espritmodel.com/transmitter-tray.aspx and I fly thumb and never once have I even come close to hitting the key pad.

I have never used a neck strap and had been using this tray for my 7C for about 4 years now so when I got the 8FGS I just popped it into it so I can't say that I know the dif, but personally I think the tray is much more of a secure way of holding the Tx anyway on all levels and for sure it removes the need to palm the Tx in anyway to keep it from moving around.

I know the tray and then the need to buy a neck strap is a bit of money but for all that it cost's, personally I think it is very well worth it.

Just to mention it, while I bought their neck strap, I know of others that have used something else. Like for instance, the strap that comes with the Align 450 case works very well.

Anyway, just my 2 on a way I keep from having any issues with the pad.

My hand bumps the dial all the time. The lock is a needed feature for me because I forget to lock it manually.
