First -- you don't "Bind" an ESC to your RX. You just plug it in to the throttle channel. Binding is a process between the Transmitter and Receiver.
If you aren't using a separate BEC/Regulator to power your system and are planning to use the internal BEC of the Align ESC to provide power, make sure that all three wires are still in the harness/plug that goes from the ESC to the throttle channel.
If the previous owner used an external BEC, he would have had to remove the positive power lead from that connector (middle wire of the connector harness). Some people cut off that lead, others just pull it out of the connector block and put heat shrink around it to insulate it. If that wire isn't installed in the connector block, you won't get power from the ESC to the radio.
Assuming that's all good (and that you have some kind of Spektrum RX), plug the ESC lead into the throttle channel of your RX, plug your bind plug into the bind port of the receiver, then hook up your battery (good idea to have your motor either disconnected or moved away from the main gear so that if things spring to life, you don't get whacked by the blades). The RX should go into bind mode. Complete the binding process normally.
