Hey Guys
I have a question that someone may save me many hours of trouble.
I have a HK 500 TT that is mostly converted to a Align 500. I just put a Align 500 CMT head on as one of my last updates and now I have a problem in forward transition that I didn't have before.
It flew nice with the HK head and now with the Align head it has a little porpoising as you start to transition into forward flight or you can aggravate it in a hover with fast very small forward and aft cyclic inputs.
Any ideas? The old HK head never did this.
Thanks
Tony

Sounds like your headspeed might be a little low for the stiffness of the dampers. New dampers are likely stiffer than the ones on the old head. Do you know what your headspeed is? If not, what motor, esc, pinion and throttle curve are you running? Are you using an governor? 6s, correct?

Don't know the head speed.
The motor is a Turnigy Typhoon 500.
13 tooth pinion, Hobbywing 80AMP Platinum ESC, linear curve.
No governor and yes 6s lipos.
The heli flew prefect with the HK head.
So the dampers may be issue.
I can bump the head speed a bit and see what happens.
I am use to flying large Vario and scale machines.
So these little ones are a bit touchy in respect
to them.
Thanks Tony

Linear throttle curve will definitely cause the "wobble". I'm not sure about the CMT head, but all of the FB heads I've seen (including my own), require decent headspeed to prevent the wobble. For normal mode, I would try something like this for normal mode 00-65-80-85-90. Your ESC does have a softstart. But if its not enabled, be careful applying throttle and as it will ramp up quickly. If that is too much headspeed, drop down to something like 00-65-75-80-85.

Play with a little until you find the lowest headspeed that does not wobble. If the headspeed is still to high, you may be able to switch to a softer damper. The original head came with black and gray dampers. The gray were the softer ones. Few people ran them because they wore quickly and its more in vogue to crank up the headspeed. That's not really my style. But I do run the black dampers with the sleeve and the headspeed is just slightly above the wobble point.

The other thing I would consider doing is enabling the governor on your ESC. I have the Hobbywing Platinum 70HV on my T500 with governor enabled. The governor actually works quite well and its far easier to find the sweet spot for the lowest possible headspeed.

She is flying sweet.
Thanks

+1 on soft start. Before you do anything, set-up soft start on esc. Instructions are in manual or on internet.

Hey guys
Yes, I have always used the very soft start option.
Works great for me.
I have tried the new throttle curve suggested.
That keeps the head speed a little more constant now
when I punch the throttle .I guess I am still a gas guy
by habit, but this a really nice flying machine now.
I may take a look at the governor option too.
Thanks again
Tony
