Looking over a 450 Pro I just got and noticed the collars that go between the grips and the head are different thickness. One is as nearly 2x as thick as the other. Not having any others to replace them should I file the thicker down to match the thinner one ? Using book as gauge, the thinner one seems to be the correct thickness.

Use the thinner ones. IIRC they come with the spindles. Maybe you can find a pic and compare.
