Hi,
Whats the best gear to use on a Trex 450 fbl pro v2 with a 2221-8 Scorpion V2 fitted? Anyone got experience with these? Any good?

Very good motor as long as you oil the bearing every 20 flights or so and make sure your pinion mesh with the main gear isn't tight.

Pinion size depends on what sort of flying your doing, how much flight time you want and whether your governing the HS or not.

Anything from 12-16T. Lots of people just run a 13 or 14T pinion at 100% throttle for 3D. The 13T at 100% gives the best all round performance vs. flight time.

60% of the time, it works every time!

I run mine 10:1 with the Castle ICE 50 Lite set to 3150RPM, I get 4 minutes of Average Joe style 3D

You have to do a little dremel work to your mouting plate for it to work. The scews are wider than the slots. It is easy to open them up to fit the motor screws.

Friends don't encourage friends to fly helis! It can cause part shortages.

+1, I just used a rat tail file, but yes the screws won't fit the older stock mount, don't know about the new ones?

i agree 3150 probly will need a 14tooth maye 15. but for most non gov flying a 13 or 14 is great.

i know its slightly off topic but the 8 will run on 4cell but needs a gov for sure i was running 3300 and castle ice 50 gov at 3300

You can run the 8 on 4s ungoverned no problem with a 10t pinion.
Or even an 11t WOT would give 3900rpm!

60% of the time, it works every time!

I have tried a few different setups with some Scorpion -8s including 3s, 4s, 11, 12, 13 and 14 tooth pinions. I finally settled on 13t and 3s at 100%. With today's good packs it was the best compromise for performance and flight time for my style (sloppy 3d). Most setups worked pretty good with a few positives and negatives for each setup.
