I have bee flying a sim and just bought a trex 500 clone. This is a barebones kit. I have no experience with building a heli and I don't know what electronics/servos etc are needed. Please, can someone explain to me what the components do and what they are? I will have help with setup, but as of yet, i am unable to get any help with what I need to buy to complete this heli. Some explanation of the gyro, receiver, servos, servo mounts and other stuff I have no idea about. Thanks to all of you for being here! :confusedennis

man, that is a really big area you are asking about.there are SO many choices when it comes to electronics.PLus you may be on a budget.

Do some research on line and also go on the t-rex500 forum.there are a few set up threads where guys list their exact components. This will give you a good headstart on what guys are using and what to look for.

Sorry for such a vague answer, but there are hundreds of choices for gear, depending on budget and performance.

the receiver or Rx is what gets the signal from the tx or transmitter and sends it to the servos/gyro,motor ect.

the servos are the muscle and take the signal from the rx and move the control surfaces.
the gyro helps control the tail and will keep a steady heading or hold it in a position.

the esc (electric speed controler)takes signal from the rx and sends it to the motor.

do you have a tx/rx yet?

thanks
Thanks Fender, I will start my homework. I dont have a transmitter or Rx yet. I was looking to buy used as my budget is tight. I want to use an after market receiver compatible with spectrum ? I am sure I won't be doing any 3d for quite awhile lol. My plan is spectrum 7ch used. But I will do build on heli before buying as I don't have $$ right now, pay as I go. Thanks again

You'll probably need mini servos for the exi 500, and you'll need servo adapters to. Servo adapter come with a Align Trex 500, but I'm not sure if you have servo adapters with your exi. Servo adapters help to take up space and mount the servo into the frame. Might look into this a little more before you buy servos.

And you'll need a 5, or 6 cell lipo, or two 3S lipos.
And either a 50 to 75 amp esc. Just guessing here. With a built in BEC.
Not sure about KV motor size. Just typ in to google, trex 500, or exi 500 motor size, servo, size, esc, size ect and you will find out all you need to know.

Budget ok.. Still bleak to say least..

What are you wanting to spend "TOTAL"?

This is generally a pricey hobby it's tough to cut certain corners so an upfront "this is my max" budget for everything is necessary for anyone to give further guidance.

...Once upon a time there were Nitros, flybars and frequency pins...

The Align Trex 500 supercombo comes with Align DS 510's for cyclic and a DS 520 for rudder. If you notice they weigh 25 grams. You can use that info to find cheaper servos like these Emax 9257 servos at valuehobby.comhttp://www.valuehobby.com/radio-sys...lis-es9257.html

I run these on the tail of my EXI 450 clone and 9 gr. T-Pro 90's on cyclic. They work fine. The 500 uses all 25 gr servos typically.

If its fixed don't break it.
