How strong are you talking about? We have flown in 30 + mph winds before and it's not that big of a deal!!

I try to tell that to the plankers all the time

Actually the mcpx is a lot of fun in 20mph winds, can pull off some huge loops.

I flew today in 40+mph winds just to test out my vbar, it was sweet. The only problem was the darn dust kept getting in my eyes.

I would like to see vids of people flying in wind, with a quick shot of an anenometer readout in the vid so we know it's actually 30 mph and not 10 mph. It's been my experience that people grossly overestimate wind speed. Getting info off the internet or a tv station doesn't cut it because wind is different in different areas. It can be dead calm at my house and blowing 10 mph at the field which is barely ten minutes away. Not trying to be an ass, I just know what it's like to try to fly in windy conditions and it just isn't fun trying to fly in wind that sends trash cans blowing down the street. Maybe I'm a puss but 15 mph is my fun factor limit. Beyond that it's just work that I am not being paid to do.

I bought a wind gauge last year. Main reason? I was tired of all the plane guys grossly of estimating the actual wind speeds.

I have to admit that I was off by at least 5 mph most the time when I hazard a guess.

Yea, it was for sure 40 gust, McCarran recorded 60 mph gust today. Didn't get any video cause I didn't think anyone would be interested. :/ It was interesting watching the vbar stabilize the heli and I swear with the cyclic I just flew it like there was no wind. My collective hand was all over the place just to keep it in one spot especially when it got very gusty. I had a lot of fun and it really builds reflexes. My Logo has a HKIII 4035-560 and its way overpowered so it was no problem coming back into the wind with some speed even!

I will get a vid of me flying in high winds eventually for ya. Here in Vegas we're rolling fast into the windy season so there will be plenty more opportunities to fly in crazy winds.

At our field we have a sock that was "calibrated" to 10 mph (removed material so it is straight out at 10 mph and above). 10mph is not a big deal for anyone of average skill but when the old plankers see that sock sticking straight out they put their planes away. Doesn't matter that I just got done with the 450. Doesn't matter than I just got done flying a plane. I have even put the mcpx up to prove a point but it doesn't matter. They'll say helicopters are too hard to fly and then turn around and say helicopters are easy to fly in wind. I will say that is partially true for landings but if a planker learns that the left stick works a thing called a rudder they too can fly and land in wind.

I also flew in the Vegas wind today. I like flying on windy days, keeps my fingers on their toes. I've got a new 700 Gasser I'm breaking in and a little wind is not going to stop me. No video, I usually fly by myself.

Gettothechopper and rappytappy, do you guys fly at Bennett field?

I fly at Bennett, though today I flew by the M resort though it was a bad idea cause the desert dust almost jacked me up a few times.

I fly near the M also, just south west of the Executive Airport. Sometimes I have to yield to low flying aircraft.

I have flown my 50 Raptor in winds that when I held it up walking back to the flight line the thing was autorotating out of my hands almost.
Everybody was laughing and saying "Let it go , let it go "

When Jae Hong flew this video, the wind had kicked up probably in the 15-20 mph gusts. He flew great nevertheless

my record is 50mph, but it was not much fun since there was no tic in the tictocs, only tocs, meaning I could barely move the heli against the wind.

No anemometer but you can tell from the vid that it's windy!! I have a pic on my iPhone of my anemometer but I don't know how to upload it to here so I will have to email it to myself and post it from my computer when I get home later.

When You can't put your canopy anywhere without it blowing away thats when it becomes less fun!... Or your blade caddy keeps blowing off your table!
