I finally got the maiden out of the way and she flies great.

This puppy started its life as a 700E F3C. I got tired of waiting for the Whip Gasser and since this was just collecting dust I figured what the heck. It would have been easier to convert the 700N, I thought the E and the N shared the same parts, I was wrong.

I was pleasantly surprised at how well the HB kit came together. The frames were very precise and everything lined up. The only issue I had was screwing the piñon to the clutch bell. I messed up the threads on the first and second try, thank goodness for HB's excellent customer support.

Also I had to move a couple of the canopies mounting hole. I had a really good time with this project and it flies really well. Dare I say it flies better than my old Spectra.

I opted for a stock G270RC since I will be sport flying with this and don't need the higher head speed. The stock Zenoah is extremely smooth and will probably get better after break in.

The only other issue I see is the low profile skids. The pull start is awfully close to the ground. I like the look though.

Just sharing my experience in case some one is looking to convert a 700E.

Thanks.

They told me to push into the bell while screwing the piñon in, I tried this twice and no go. I ended up sending HB a new bell and asked them to install it for me and they did.

I put a nipple on the center plug for the return, I used the top nipple for the vent and the side to feed the engine.

I'm just breaking the motor in so I have the 25% at +5 pitch.
Throttle curve 0, 13, 25, 30, 100. I'm hovering at mid stick for the time being. Head speed at hover is around 1500.

Your throttle curve will differ depending on your set up.

Very nice heli. Congratulations.

It is better cleaning the threads on the pinion before applying it to the bell.

You'll have nice times with your HB.

The micro threads on the pinion/bell are a horrible design from align if you ask me. Not sure who could have thought those micro threads would be a good idea and how it benefits things.

Yea, cleaning them really well and then lightly...and I mean very lightly, spinning and feeling your way until they catch is the best way I have found to avoid cross threading. Don't force it and just keep lightly feeling your way until you feel it catch freely and start spinning in.

If all the threads are perfectly clean and in good condition, the things marry up perfectly and it screws in smoothly. If anything is off, this can be a very painful experience.

Even when things are perfect, you might sometimes end up with a thin angel hair sliver of aluminum cut out of the bell after you get the pinion screwed in. After that, the thing will screw in and out perfect every time.

The heli looks great! Can we see under the hood? Get some of those JR rubber isolator spacers for the landing gear and it should be fine. I would think the RC format engine will be a big plus to keep heat under control in the hot Nevada summers!
Good luck with it.

Setup is everything, All my heli's can fly far better than I can pilot them

Thanks for the kind post fellas! Most of you helped me with this build.

turboomni, under the hood is a mess right now until I'm happy with the set up. Once tidied up, I will post some shots.

riddick, I'll probably do a 600 next!

Roto, the stock Align piñon screws to the bell easily but the HB piñon was a challenge. I've been building helis and planks for decades and I couldn't believe that piñon stopped me cold.
