LiFe, by all means. LiFe batteries have an extremely flat discharge curve. That means they deliver their nominal voltage right to the end of the curve. This provides more usable battery life to you.

life batteries are awesome, only thing I found out is that.. I use an align voltage reg with built in glow driver.. they wont work, the volt reg wants at least 7 volts
everytime I turned it on i got a red light and no go

With that tail servo you will want to run a voltage step down between the gyro and the tail servo.

Wedge77, I have been doing alot of research on batteries and regulators since no one on here cares to share their findings, or they just dont know...??? The Western Robotics Hercules BEC is supposed to be an awesome product for $50. minimum input voltage is only 6V. I was also looking at the Gryphon extreme, its $110 and has the same minimum input but I think a bit overpriced for what I need. Stay away from the Castle products at this time. If you choose to stick with the align regulator you must use a 7.4v pack at minimum and those regulators are kinda sketchy from my readings. I was gonna try one out because I like it for the price and the onboard glow is a cool feature. Western also makes those. I am going to take a gamble on the Voltz LiFe 3000mah pack for $25 from Readyheli to go with the WB BEC. I am anal about having quality products on my heli. If I have to spend $50 more to save myself a $150 repair bill, I feel I have made a good choice.
