Here's a couple pics of my mongoose with my new custom made external tanks all done and flying. I had to custom make my own external tanks since I've had nothing but problems with Airstar for the last 6 months getting parts on time or the right parts.

While I was designing my own tanks I decided to completely redesign the fuel system and integrate 2 electric fuel pumps. The stock external fuel tank plumbing setup didn't make much sense to me.

The external tanks and main tank together now hold almost a gallon of fuel and add 9 pounds to the heli ready to fly and full, but it lifts it like it wasn't even there.

How does Airstar stay in business when you hear about their bad service all the time?

A gallon of fuel? What kind of flight time are you getting and what application is that for?

The helicopter was built around endurance flying with the goal of the longest non stop nonautonomous flight on record. But now I think it just has a really cool look to it. I'm still shooting for that record. With the tanks the flight time should be 2.5 to 3 hours.

As far as airstar's service I really don't want to get into it here for fear of getting repremanded by RR. I waited months and months for parts they never intended to deliver. People are still waiting for parts for almost a year. God only knows how their still in business. I just returned a clutch, belt, and pulley because they won't mate to my engine Apparently my 270RC has a different shaft then all other zenoahs

I do love the helicopter though.

Funny you mention setting a record.
About 2 weeks, I found my 2001 Guinness Book of World Records book in a drawer. Thumbing through, I saw a picture of a helicopter.

The record, set December 18, 1999, was the longest flight over water by a model helicopter, flying a distance of 39.8 miles. I saw that and thought, "I can beat that."

I don't know if the record still stands, but you can read about it HERE
It says the flight took about 4 hours.

Thats one heck of a feat. I'm hoping to just fly mine non stop with onboard fuel for as long as possible.

Gotta give him credit though for flying an rc from a full size in bad weather.

Are you using a big battery pack?
I was thinking some day to strap a gallon of gas to one of my gassers and keep it in the air for the 3 to 4 hours or so and just swap pilots every 20 minutes so we can get a break.

Do this at a funfly would be cool for all to see. Of course we'll do it on the side so its not occupying a flight station all that time!!

The flight battery gets charged by the onboard generator. rbort knows all about that.

Nice Job! Ive seen this helicopter fly in person. I'm sure Pablo (roccoym) would be impressed with this. Good Luck!

A bad day of flying or fishin is better than a good day at work!
