New 8FG Super & SD card
New 8FG Super & 32GB class 10 SD card, transmitter will not recognize the card for formatting. What do I need to do to make this work?

Oops! My mistake. I thought the manual said 8GB to 32GB but it is 32mb to 2GB. Guess 32GB will not work?

I tried updating my Futaba 8FG Super today as well with a San Disk SDHC 4GB card and it would not format in the transmitter. Does not like this card .

I'll see if I can find another SD card laying around somewhere

The 8fg probably has software only to format a card up to that size. The updates are very small kb anyways.Friends don't encourage friends to fly helis! It can cause part shortages.

Thanks for the reply. I already had a 32GB card that is why I was trying to use it. Guess I will have to find a smaller one.

Interesting, wouldn't think the size would matter, especially if it was a larger card. I will go get a 2gb card

Yep, probably has to do with the addressing scheme used in the 8FG for the SD card, can't cope with addressing more than 2GB. I had to go get a 2GB for mine even tho I have bunches of 4gb and up cards laying around. Can't use a one of them, lol...

I wonder about the 18MZ? I.e. does it have the same limitation?

Also according to others, the cards needs to be just SD and not SDHC.

For one list of cards that are supposed to work, here is a link: http://futaba8fg.wikidot.com/sd-car...tibility-matrix

All in all, finding just a 2G SD card on the shelf in most places these days is getting pretty rare so would probably have to order one.

Btw although it is not on that list, I used this card from RiData and it worked great: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...N82E16820183214

(Yeah I know, sorry they don't sell it anymore but just figured I'd included it for reference)

I tried a number of SD cards, 2GB from major memory mfgrs like PNY or Kingston. They just weren't recognized.

the only one I could get to work was a SanDisk 2GB SD card

try the others all you want, its your money. These will work and as Kevin said you can find them on eBay

over 2GB I think they are all them SDHC...
I have been looking for a 4GB SD card for my 2009 Navigon GPS but found nothing, only SDHC.
SD cards are discontinued you won't maybe find a 2GB card for the 8FG withing the next 5 years in case get now a couple of them...

Sandisk 2GB SD cards are perfect, you don't need the capacity anyway, just for model saving when you send the radio in for checkups or for software upgrades.
Over 1500 of exactly these on eBay right now. Like was said previously, pick up any size under 2GB for this use.
Even on the 18MZ (which has been seen with up to 4GB) you will need one for software updates.

I got my 18mz yesterday and after realizing it didn't come with a sd card I picked up a SanDisk 4gb SDHC card from Radio Shack for $9.99.

Yes, and did it work? Just put it in the slot and turn the radio on if the radio recognizes it then it will probably work. If it does not recognize it then you will probably be looking for a 2GB or smaller card.

Yes the 4gb card worked fine. I called Futaba prior to buying the card and they said 2gb max. But my friend tried a 4gb and worked so I got the 4gb as well. The benefit is you can put all your model pictures, music and backups on the card instead of using the radios memory.

SDHC card 4GB Sandisk from Radio shack does not work in my new Futaba 8FG Super. Error code 01 when trying to recognize the card. Maybe the 18MZ allows the larger SD card?

I believe 2gb is max on the 8fg. As soon as I put in the 4gb I was able to save the models. It even created the required folders.
