custom mechanical solution to automatic generator start
hey
this is Will from Uganda. I have not posted on here in a while but still read posts on RR daily....really admire the expertise and characters on here! i have not been able to fly helicopters in about a year now because i moved to Uganda to work for a small NGO that i started when i was stateside.

so i'll get to it

i am opening an internet cafe to try give people around here a way for them to own the solution to their own problem (financially) and power is very infrequent around here, so i bought a generator.

quality ones are hard to come by but i managed to get a pretty good one, but it does not have automatic start. the good thing it is not located in the front of my business (noise and pollution) but is in the back...

PROBLEM: i have to walk behind the building which leaves the business unattended.

QUESTION: does anyone think it is possible to mount some heavy torque servos that would physically turn the key to start it and another servo that would flip the circuit breaker after the generator has been running for 10 minutes to bring the loads onto the generator?

here are some photos:
A view of the whole panel

The generator circuit breaker

The key start inserted

Close up view of the key start without the key

am i approaching this problem from the wrong angle? i need someway to remotely start this generator....

i would really appreciate any help! greetings from uganda!

peace will

Remove switch and extend wiring inside building. Could do same for breaker or install a discontent inside where generator connects to panel.Dx7 With Ion Power Supply. Why use anything else.

hey
rodney thank you so much for responding....

can you elaborate though. I have my electrician coming on monday to put in a 32A changeover switch so the generator is hooked into the building's 4 way switch but i'm not so clear about what you mean by "remove switch and extending wiring inside building"

some missing information that i left out before. the generator is about 45-50m from where the building is. that is the length of the power cable that we ran from the generator to the building.

how do i build or wire it so i can start the generator from inside the building....do you have schematic or something?

i really appreciate anyone's help!

peace will

I don't know zip about generators starters, but I know about google.

I typed "remote generator starters" in google and got a ton of remote starter kits.

If you type in the name brand of your generator, you might be able to get a remote starter kit made for your unit.
