Lokng at getting into AP with my raptor 30
I'm looking to do some amateur aerial photography with my Raptor 30, just want to shoot some simple video, and was wondering if anyone had some advice for mounting and vibration isolating a camcorder?

I was thinking about constructing a sled to fit between the skids, probably with some sort of enclosure to protect the camera from nitro gunk, and maybe a tilt mechanism.

Are there any setups anyone has done like this that i could see some pictures of to draw inspiration for what i could build?

I'm not sure that many people are using Nitro helis for AP work because of all the vibrations that they cause. How large is your camcorder? Personally I am using a GoPro Hero HD for my vids and it works out very well because of the small size, assortment of mounts that it comes with, vibration damper and protective case.

On the non-exhaust side, you might try something like how I mounted it to my 500?

side-mount would be something to consider, though i'd be a bit worried about upsetting the CG.

I haven't actually decided on a camcorder yet, unless i just end up using my flip video (ugh) Whatever i go with though, the camera itself will be ziplocked to keep the oil at bay

normally nitro is not recommended, but one of the top companies in the biz shoots nitro.. so do what you likes! It can be done.

Spec them out - http://www.flying-cam.com/
Check out their video gallery... and their behind the scenes stuff..
They also do pilot passing. Check out their vid:

Cool link, VR, thanks!

Shu, I chose to use the back skid to try and keep a good CG and found that I didn't even really have to trim it much but of course the cam is small and light

Hey Shu- I used a Rappy 60 for a long time for AP and found diverting he exhaust with a long tube helped. I used 5/8" on the OS 70 with no ill effects, 1/2" is probably ok for the 30. Down to the skids and towards the opposite direction the camera faces seemed good. Oil slime still gets spread, just much less. Definitely bag the camera!

it is alot of fun, but i did quit messing with the camera and just flew for a few months. then tonight i got to eyeing the camera mount.

i wuld like to be able to pack my dslr but it would be near vibe free enough

tried an image stabalized camera and it couldnt focus at all

didnt get any even kinda decent footage till going to gopro.
