I agree as long as you are flying and having fun that's all that matters.

Great discussion it has helped me with the 6s setup.

Would it best to mount the mini VBar and receiver on the bottom plastic tray. Or mount the VBar on the boom clamp and the receiver down on the plastic tray. I am using a Futaba 6203SB. Thanks

I flew a 6s 450 today, but it is a completely different setup to my 3s setup so can't really compare the 2. Power was awesome but motor was hotter than mine (both Scorpions) and only got 3 mins out of the 2x 3s 1300mah 25C Gens Ace packs. I actually had the timer set on 4 mins thinking it would do that easily but after 4 mins there was 2% left in the packs and they were hot and slightly puffed! They charged up fine on a PL8 and the puffing had completely gone by the time they were charged, no harm done hopefully.

60% of the time, it works every time!

A setup averaging almost 600W for a 450 size doesn't sound very well thought out. What hs were you running?

Just over 400W actually. I was running 3700 governed. Scorpion 2010kv with Align's slant gearing, 10.08:1.

Yes, if you average 400W then 4 min is the absolute limit you will get out of this. Misread, I thought you had only 3 mins...
I recon you need about 170W just to keep the rotor spinning at that rpm...

3 mins would have been the limit, 4 mins took the pack to 2% remaining! Around 1250mah put back in.

When you said, "Power was awesome", did you mean it outdid your 3S heli?

I wouldn't expect longer flight time on those machine running that high a HS though. And as you mentioned earlier that your friends heli is 170grams heavier than yours, the extra mah that he carries would only be expended keeping his machine airborne and the extra force required to push that heavy machine through radical maneuvers.

Yes, but both VERY different setups. If mine was also FBL and governed it too would seem more powerful.

With the MSH 1300 motor you do not have to use the motor shaft adapter. Got the new 6S packs. Have the main frame together. Servos, motor, main gear mounted. Have to install the stretch boom tomorrow night. Starting to look good.

How do you run the motor wires when you mount the ESC under the battery tray ? Can someone post some pictures of the ESC mounting and how to run the motor wires. Also other wiring would be nice. Thanks Ken

3s setup can be just as powerful as a 6s setup, it just that it's harder to achieve the power. At 3s, the same amount of power requires much more current, so you need the best and highest C rating for your batteries. More current means everything will run a bit hotter and you will be less efficient. A 6s setup should actually increase your flight time if you keep the same head speed as your 3s setup and fly in a similar fashion since it will be much more efficient.

Not if you use the equivelant energy packs i.e. 1300mah 6s to 2600mah 3s. Same C rating required.

I also think you'll find it is slightly more efficient not MUCH more efficient.

ESC temps are down to the size of ESC you choose, battery temps would be the same given the same C rating and motor temp would depend how close your getting to its max wattage output. Losses through cables and connectors, just use bigger guage cable and connectors rated for higher current.

3s setups are lighter and 450's need to be light.

60% of the time, it works every time!

guys i don't know if it's the same thing but out in the real world and your running a 1 hp motor aircompresser on 110 volt AC and the power bill for the month is lets say $50.00, now put a 1 hp 220 volt ac motor on that same aircompresser and your power bill will ALWAYS be less, OR lets say you have a airplane with a four cyl engine and it has a 12 volt system the starter power cable will have to be lets say 8 gage and the starter will draw 100 amps to crank the engine over, now take that same airplane and change it over to a 24 volt system, now it will only need a 14 gage cable AND only draw 70 amps or less to crank it over.

i could do this all day long showing how higher voltage will always be cooler, draw less amps, and always be more efficient with all things being equal in the real world and with real world applications, the list is endless.........
